M1A SOCOM 16

I inherited my dad’s SOCOM 16 and the new box of Remington 308 WIN will not chamber. My understanding is it would fire a 308 round. Is that not correct or is there another issue I’m missing?

I’m not certain, 🤔, but I believe a 7.62x51 will go on a .308 rifle, but a .308 round will not necessarily work in a 7.62 chambered rifle… or some such ?
But I bet somebody here knows…stay tuned.

308 and 7.62x51 (just like 223 and 5.56 are the same) they have the same external dimensions. Some military brass is thicker internally

Springfield makes M1As in 6.5 Creedmore. IF thats what you have, it would make sense that 308 doesnt chamber

Thanks for info. I’ll have to do some more research on it. He always said 308 but I was never around when he fired it.
