Winter Weather thread 2026

It's so weird seeing so much of the country is shutting down over what we call Tuesday where I live.
I live on Lake Erie, in one of the snowiest cities in the country. We are often competing with Syracuse, NY for that title each year.

It's nothing to get 12 inches of snow or more in a day. Just in the last few years we have had weekend's where we have gotten over 50. Windchill taking the temps under 0? Yup, pretty much every winter

Honestly, we get a blizzard and we go to the mall just to get out of the house

I completely understand it's different becuase we are used to it. We have the clothing and the equipment to handle it.

It's just weird to see it be so different most other places

Snow is not the issue.
In NTx, we get ice. Very little snow. Frozen precip in the form of sleet or just plain ol precip for 2 days and them it drops to 20 degrees for a week and everything becomes a skating rink. That was this last storm.
Still have 3” of ice in my driveway. We got a dusting of snow. Meh, looks nice. Its the layers of pure ice under it ..

ditto
out here in the piney woods
still have ice on north sides of yard, driveway.
at least its crunchy now so its breaking up

I tell my southern friends (and family members) that there are very valid reasons why I live where the air hurts my face. Gators, big snakes, hurricanes, you get my meaning… I will take the bears and timberwolves anytime. 😎
I hear you. We have alpha critters here too, but very low humidity. I like 150-pound cats, elk and bears in my yard, but we do have the occasional rattler.

Exactly. You can drive on snow, up to a certain amount obviously however it’s IMPOSSIBLE to drive on solid ice.

I lived in the north east most of my life and the last major storm I remember was 44 inches of snow in 36 hours, the road we lived on was a dead end and started as hill off a major thoroughfare. A plow truck couldn’t even get up the hill It was 7 days before the road was cleared using a payloader to create a path one scoop at a time up the center of the road. Only then could a plow truck clear the road.
I had already cleared my driveway with a snowblower and it took me 4 hours to clear the pile of snow left by the plow at the end of my driveway.

Studded tires make it possible, but I don't think they are legal in most areas.

This weekend's Winter weather in my area.

Saturday
Snow showers, mainly after 7am. High near 29. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
