Thinking About A Prodigy 5" Comp

Thinking about picking uo a 5" Prodigy Comp. I live in Connecticut which is a restricted state 10 round max capacity. Currently have 5 1911's and one "2011" Fusion XP Comp. Planning to use as a range toy. Love the Fusion Comp (shoots soft easy follow up shots). Have read way to many hate posts or pistol needs a lot of work to make it run. Ignition kit, trigger and so on. Wondering how the Prodigy would be out of the box? Any significant break in or long term issues. I shoot packaged 124 gr brass range ammo CCI, Republic, etc. in all my 9MMs. Currently breaking in an Emissary Black 9MM picked up last week. Typical new pistol stuff no real issues. Note the mags that came with the pistol arent great. Hoping they break in. Runs great with Mec Gar 10 round mags.

I haven't shot the comped versions so not sure how much of a difference they make but my OG 5" model is a great shooter. Cerakote is def a bit thick on the rails is probably my only real break-in gripe. It gets smoother and smoother each time I take it out for a session though. For QOL, Swap out the two piece guide rod system to a Dawson Precision One-Piece Tool-less guide rod. One piece rod and it captures the spring, so much better for maintenance. Duramags run pretty good in it (OEM mags).

I second this. I bought mine back when the Prodigy first hit the market and have over 4000 flawless rounds through it - all of it 124gr or 124 NATO. I did exactly what you mentioned, including racking it about a thousands times to wear down the cerakote. I have more than a few 2011s and my 5 in Prodigy is one of the slickest of the bunch. Just had a marvel cut done to it, just to see if it could get any slicker - which it did. Never had a problem with the mags. In fact, I run them in my 2K11 Pro.
