I hope that’s dog hair and not from appendix carry. That’s the one exception, but you have to clean it regularly. BTW, mine was $99 new.

Being able to shoot the candidates is very helpful. I find it interesting that you refer to the TP9SFx as a huge gun. Other than having a barrel around 3/4" longer than pistols with 4.5" barrels, the other dimensions are quite similar to pretty much every other one.
The addition of a brass backstrap changes the balance of the long barrel Caniks in a good way. I wouldn't let the size of that pistol disqualify it given what you want to use it for. Accuracy and a good trigger are valuable assets I a defensive weapon, IMO.
With regard to the Echelon, I wonder how much of the nose heavy feeling you report is created by the grip. I find the palm swell to be a bit too large in the the OEM module. With a fully loaded 20 round mag and an optic on top ours doesn't feel unbalanced to me. I agree with your evaluation of the trigger on it. SA really delivered when they released it. I find it markedly better than the XD, and I like those pistols a lot.
Glock, yeah, whatever. Even after putting a couple hundred dollars into parts and time into polishing the internals the trigger won't be the equal of the Canik or Echelon. The OEM sights are markedly inferior to most everything else on the market. I often wonder if Glock enthusiasts are blinded by confirmation bias or are ignorant of better options on the market.
Sounds like you have been able to find direction in your search. I wouldn't have a problem recommending any of the candidates I have experience with for a first pistol. You may want to do a bit of research regarding reported issues, aftermarket support, customer issues, and resale value. These could tip the scales in a manner that surprises you.
The SFT Pro is very close in size to the SFx. Overall ergonomics are essentially indistinguishable. Triggers are identical. I would be willing to give you comparison specs on those we have in our herd.Yeah, that TP9SFX was a wicked cool looking gun, and despite it's overall length I thought it felt more balanced than the Echelon, admittedly though, I'm by no means a professional so I may be WAY off on that comparison. If I was to give the shot accuracy award to any of these it would be the TP9SFX by a quite large margin, I'm not sure if my accuracy was due to the longer barrel, superb trigger feel or general ergonomics of the gun, and as you said it really is only about .75" longer than the others, but it just looked bigger than that LOL. At $499 for the kit with all the extra goodies, it certainly takes the win in that category too.
I am intrigued by the Mete SFT, because it's just a bit bigger than the Mete SF, and just a bit smaller than the TP9SFX...right there in the potential goldilocks zone, if it had the same trigger feel as the TP9SFX I think it would be my choice. Sadly there are none near me that I can try...well technically Bass Pro has it, but I can't shoot it there.
Yeah, with the Echelon maybe with a larger 20 round mag (I forget the size of the one we had...maybe it was 20?) plus an optic, would have maybe made it feel more balanced? I did like the gun for sure, it had a feel of quality if that makes sense, I certainly wouldn't feel bad owning it.
As I mentioned above, today's winner (for me) was the XD Mod 3, with the Walther coming in a very close 2nd, and the TP9SFX coming in just behind that in 3rd place, but I could happily own any of those three and call this story done and yet...
I know the XD Mod 3 should be the obvious choice since it took the win today, but there is something in my gut chewing at me saying "what am I giving up to hit that $325 price point", and therein lies the problem....
Of today's three "winners".
The Walther PDP maybe felt the "best made" (also most $$)...
The Springfield XD Mod 3 maybe best "all arounder" (the least $$)...
The Canik TP9SFX the most accurate and best trigger absolutely no comparison (the most included for the $$)
Well ok, i gotta admit there was a couple that were fine, i'll post a pic.
I would like to applaud the members posting on this forum regarding this question. It took all the way to page three until it was derailed by Hi Points and Minions. While your restraint was admirable, the the inclusion of aforementioned items was inevitable. View attachment 103787
