Help w/Suppressors

I am seriously considering a .300 Blackout pistol or SBR for home defense - mainly because I’ve read this caliber/barrel size can be made quietest with suppressor for inside use. 1) Is this true, and 2) If so, what would be the quietest suppressor I could put on this type/caliber firearm?

I am also not opposed to outfitting (or buying new) a tactical handgun (mainly because I have 10s of 1000s of rounds downrange for handgun practice). If I went this route, I’m guessing a 5” or 6” barrel would be best, but would still have same questions above - 1) What would be quietest barrel length/caliber, and 2) what would be the quietest suppressor I could use on said pistol/caliber?

I’m trying to come up with something that won’t make me, wife, dogs deaf (or hearing damage) in the event deployment was necessary.

I do have a Staccato C24 (4” barrel, 9mm) I wouldn’t mind converting, along with several 4.25” 1911s (All .45 and not sure if I can get drop in threaded barrels for them). I’m also not opposed to adding a new such handgun as long as DA/SA or SAO and made of metals. I would probably lean toward DA/SA if buying something new since it would be for bump in the night emergencies.

Price is not an issue, willing to pay for quality/quiet. Well, within reason, let’s keep suppressor prices under $2k. I know a lot of you here use suppressors on various firearms, so figured I would ask.
 
I dont think you will find that one suppressor has a noticeable decible rating to the ear over another but the main differences would be the tone of the shot fired. I would look at overall length and weight as things to consider. The Q Trash Panda is an excellent option but so is the Rugged Razor in my opinion. I shoot a lot of .300blk suppressed and I have a lot of .300blk firearms. Awesome round that is really fun to shoot suppressed. I would equate the decibles to a 9mm subsonic round suppressed. The type of firearm you use will also be part of how loud it is. Using a suppressed .300blk bolt gun is about as good as you'll get with sound reduction. The reciprocating bolt on a semi auto rifle can be loud in itself when firing suppressed. Shooting indoors will sound noticeably louder than outdoors. Theres a lot to consider but I would recommend it.
 
Great round for sure, but suppressor wise I wouldn't pick either of those options personally. Funny how different people's experiences can be.

I was not impressed with the Rugged Razor but to be fair (Insert Letterkenny meme) I didn't like any of the Rugged .30 cal line and I tested them all at the time of my purchase (Alaskan wasn't out quite yet so I havent tried that). The Q Trash Panda had better sound suppression but the titanium sparking was a turn off for me. In a home defense situation I could see that being very disorienting at night.

I'm running two different .30 cal cans. Abel Company Biscuit, and a Griffin Armament Dual Lok 7. I've tested both on .300 blk and they sound excellent, however I will say the Abel Co is a heavy duty mofo and I ended up running that solely on the .308 spear w/ an FRT in it. The Dual Lok is much lighter, albeit a bit longer. Sound suppression was great, and the Dual Lok mounting system is ROCK SOLID.

There are so many good .300blk cans out there so this is just my hands (and ears) on experience i'm offering up. You have picked the caliber with probably the widest range of GOOD options out there in terms of cans. More than likely wherever you land you will be satisfied.

As for the HUXWRX, Just beware of the "flowthrough" buzzword. Anything flowthrough is going to sacrifice sound suppression for less backpressure/gas. Something to consider when choosing a can. Sound suppression, backpressure/gas to the face, length, and weight are the main attributes people consider when choosing a can. Each has a trade off.

I’d go SMG, SBR for pure home defense in 9mm if looking for a typical home defense set up for cqb intruders.
Quieter, and lots of options for guns combined with suppressor brands
I run 5 brands of suppresors. across all calibers from .270 win down to .22. & 9mm.
A 9” barrel with 147 subsonic 9mm is stupid quiet. Quieter than any of my .300bo combos. As well as its a lighter platform.
A Kuna, MP5/ clone like AP5, or other 9mm smg/pistol would be ideal over .300bo IMO.

Worked well for the SAS at the Embassy and countless of raids by military/LEO in pure urban, home/office setting.

My .02 cents

Edit; we guide for hogs with .300bo suppressed. Daughter runs a nice sbr as well. Tons of hogs down with them. Based on that, is why I say 9mm suppressed over .300bo for pure HD.

Couldn't agree more. I run my MPX K as my home defense and backpack gun. Love my .300blk but the 9mm makes more sense for me in those two roles.

That makes two of us (at least)! And hard to siphon through the tons of stuff online. And then adding various mounts and stuff to the equation makes it even more confusing. That’s why I figured asking here might help, which it has already.

Certainly a good idea. I have been looking for a Kuna, just can’t find one close to MSRP (at online retailers I trust) yet. Edit - scratch that, I just did an search and it seems they’re becoming more available.

As the Kuna has a 6” barrel, would a handgun w/6” barrel be as quiet with 147g?

Another benefit to me going this route is I already stock 9mm, though not at 147g, but easy enough to do and obviously much better price per round.

I guess the next question would be what would be a good quality suppressor (for a suppressor novice) on a Kuna type firearm? Would the Spectre 9 TurboDog 910 uses be a good choice?

And I still haven’t talked myself out of a .300 blk ar pistol, though I am leaning toward the logic of a 9mm.

Can't speak to that model specifically but there are alot of options out there. Need to ask yourself, and be very honest.... Is this going to be the only can you buy and do you plan on switching it to other hosts? In my experience it always starts out with the idea of one can, multi cal, to swap around. And it never pans out the way you think. haha

Multi-cal cans are great but they do not perform better than a dedicated can for a specific caliber. If you want maximum sound suppression get something made for that caliber and keep it there, in my experience. Just my two cents.

Mounts, mounting systems, muzzle devices, thread pitches etc etc can get confusing but they are actually pretty easy. Unless you start messing with HK and Sig and some others. Sometimes they like to throw oddball thread pitches at you but that's a different conversation for another thread lol.

It would just be the one, at least to start, and just for the Kuna. I don’t see much need for the super quiet outside of home protection. I use both foam and a headset when at range.

I just ordered the Kuna, so for now that’s where I’m headed. Gives me some time to work out a suppressor, as I have to wait for it to get to LGS and then I’ll run lots of different ammo through it for reliability before I set it up for HD.

Unless I really, really, really like shooting with a suppressor, I can’t see adding one to my other handguns, any of which would need a threaded barrel before I could even consider it :).

I have a Kuna suppressed and I really like it. I have the Otter Creek Labs Lithium 9 on mine and am very happy with it. It is quiet, pretty short and light, so it adds nothing to the firearm. It comes with a direct thread mount, so you can just screw it onto the threads of the Kuna. It is also HUB compatible, so if down the road, you wanted to add a quick detach mount or a Neilson device to it for pistol use, you can do that as well. The Lithium 9 is also rated for .300 BLK, although I haven't used it on my .300 BLK, so I can't attest to it's performance on that. I probably should play with that, but I have a dedicated can on my .300 BLK so I just haven't gotten around to it.

Something else to consider and maybe play with is not all subsonic ammo is the same. I've found out of the 6" barrel, the closer you get to 1000 fps, the louder it will be. I've basically used 3 different types of subsonic ammo with this setup. Two of them are around 990 fps and are fairly loud. No where near as loud as unsuppressed, but noticeably louder than the brand I use that runs at 870 fps. So far, my favorite ammo to run suppressed is Freedom Munitions HUSH 147 grain. Unfortunately, they are out of stock right now, but that ammo is SUPER quiet.

Take a look at the OCL Lithium 9. Lots of good reviews on YouTube on it. It can be bought at Silencer Shop.

Was it hard to get the stock muzzle break off the Kuna? I’ve been reading horror stories and vices and wrenches and such to remove the stock muzzle device from the Hellion, though I haven’t personally tried.
 
Suppressors are like everything else HOW MUCH do you want to pay?

I do like 300 BO; but there are other good cartridges. I might opt for 45acp and if youre really cool do it in a HK MK23 with a Knights Armaments' suppressor

I like my SilencerCo Omega 9k on my MP5. Quiet and lightweight.
As for pistol vs sbr/pcc, i would go that over a true pistol. Steadier position platform in firing. Remember, NFA SBRs are free now, so you can sbr your kuna, sig, ap5, whatever you buy for free and put either a folding stock, brace, swap around, switch when/if you want to with sbr stamp.
Also, 124 gr is a great training round over 147 subs for cost. Keep 147 for some accuracy sight ins
