Building the Black Hawk Down M14

Images from the movie.

The actor has his personal M1A Scout in a Blackfeather RS chassis.

I no longer have a copy of the movie (loaned it out and it hasn't returned yet), to compare with the article pics. Going from memory, I'd say that's pretty darn close to the rifle in the movie.
Good job.

I just purchased my M1A and am trying find an A.R.M.S. #18 mount. They are very difficult to find for purchase. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Since the ARMS 18's are out of stock everywhere right now you can try the AR15.com Equipment Exchange (used optics sub-forum).

BTW - Back in the day the original ARMS 18s were a split rail set-up and those are unobtainable right now. The ARMS 18 switched to a solid continuous rail a long time ago, and technically not accurate to the Shughart days.

Talyn,

Thanks for the outstanding information. I'm a novice on a project like this one. Since my goal is to clone Shughart's rifle as closely as possible, are you aware of any alternative mounts similiar to the original ARMS #18 split rail?

Again, thank you.

There's the Kensight mount but has you can see while it's a split rail it's different than the original ARMS #18.

I have no knowledge on how good the Kensight mount is, but it does give you more rail length ahead of the receiver than the "split rail" ARMS #18 opening where a red dot should be mounted.

Personally I'd go with a Sadlak mount (which I have for other M1As)
