Can we have a little fun WHAT Would you pick?

Well, since it’s my scenario, it would be a bug hunt and the only gun for that is the M41A Pulse Rifle.

You know I did think an AR was the EASY BUTTON; but I opted for the Ruger PC Carbine because it uses Glock mags, the same as my handgun (I normally cringe when someone says that; but in this case I think it works). Again in my personal scenario, this isnt an end of the world for all times event; only a short term thing.

You are of course to plan for your own scenario

Its games like these that let me "justify" future purchases...I might needed it IF
Well, at least Glock magazines are probably more plentiful than the magazines of other guns.

If for some reason law and order has a complete breakdown or if things go sideways and people come looking to steal what is not theirs or anything that deals with idiots that have no morals or remorse about their crime. and that day is quickly coming. A certain culture is already there.
I always caution that every time law and order has hic-up'd it has returned and bodies will have to be accounted for... As much as I may want to break out the BIG STUFF, its expensive and maybe harder to convince the granny on the jury that I really needed a Flame Thrower...but it would be an exciting story

I live in what we call around here as out in the country ( outside the city limits). It’s very plausible that I would have to make 2-300 yard shoots if the SHTF. So if I’m choosing a rifle it’s going to be in a rifle caliber. AR 15 with expanding bullets. If I need more power my Henry in 45/70 should work. If I can choose a weapon I don’t have it would be a heavy barreled rifle chambered in 300 WinMag. I have a bolt gun in 30-06 but I like the power of the 300. If it’s Zombies ( you did say to make it fun) my M&P 15-22 would be my 1st choice lots of ammo along with my FN 502.

I love the concept of a PCC but I just can't get past the fact that it is still a pistol caliber.
I have kicked around the idea of a PCC in 10MM.

If we're talking something portable, I would probably go with a 300 black out in a 8 to 10 inch barrel.

If purely home defense, probably an AR 10

Right now I do have an AR 15 but not 10, so, if stuff goes sideways, that's what I'm grabbing

IF you don't have an overriding disdain for the whole concept of 9mm carbines , the OP's specified scenario would be as suited to a PCC as anything .

I think of PCCs as an extension of the SMG class. Just like SMGs there a place where they excel and places were they dont. In an Urban/Suburban location where ranges are short(er) the SMG is a great tool. In 9mm (40SW) or 45acp it allows carrying more ammo in a smaller space than rifle cartridges. I can stick two STEn/Uzi mags side by side in my pack pocket where only one AR/AK mag would fit. A loaded 50 round 9mm drum weights less than a 50 round 556 mag. The drawback is range 100m is possible beyond 150m is questionable.

I have often thought that a 10mm or 357Sig or 30 Carbine would make a a great magnum or intermediate SMG. To that you could add 7.62x25.

Ultimately the best PCCs have SMG length barrels
