Howdy Buckaroos!

Forgive my enthusiasm. The class had a great time outdoors running the Advanced Defensive Pistol Clinic yesterday. Let me give you a quick rundown. It was held at McMiller Sport Club, a nice outdoor facility. It's a pretty drive through all the forest and farmland.

I used the new table to set up my gear. There were 10 students today, with skills ranging from novice to expert. I was somewhere in the middle.

Using the Remington ammo in my XD9 Mod.3, I am getting more accustomed to the Holosun riding on top. We did not get a chance to use these barriers in our drills today. Maybe next time in a rifle class.

We started with a warm-up drill. Each of us got a target.

The drill was fairly simple. We'd put 3-5 hits on center mass from 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 yards. Sometimes we would pivot 90 or 180 degrees before engaging the target. (We're saving the steel for later.)

This was my target at the end of the exercise. I guess I'm doing damage but I'd like to keep the group more centered at longer distance.

AP1GczPQbvKXi-DlcaU8pNfV61riDnH5xmuh9CVG_CJ3I-o2QzSLZ6YJZRMZ8HFcztA0f6X9lXEUv02ayqdFh2nuPJf5BGi-9nFfJQpvxq2Nm3t3ep2nA5nsEMfvnKtX-teDouyLR8PhBMVaZ8aOTPPfKuz_SA=w1651-h929-s-no

If you give me the line break, I did make that head shot when the instructor called for it out of the blue. ;) It's time for the instructors to put up new targets for a series of different exercises. The next exercise was motion across the range. Starting at 25 yards, moving to the 10 yard marker, engage the steel with one hit and the paper with three hits. I'll have video later.

AP1GczOFf9XcJhIc29Rt-4wZsUnh0HmuYXFpCf75O7h93u5mJbfC_yhAKTYBy5y2njqBkIb6AFRUjU-GT-QOjOy8m9VgM26Qc4cGlZmsSY_3EbxoA1rQ1srQaSGeOjr4q4zzjx2ZLlines-Db_BMoIXQOcMgIg=w1651-h929-s-no

New targets for the next exercise.

AP1GczOHkzgGJyttI8DK8LJci06cJKRQjAUqdGvup84cKX4QjlL3sOM6_jpAclk0FWNDi1HPEQN1X0lNkbbmlpBUCXrkf-ygKHN_MHhuUjVBRzaqE7UMx4WCnOIbHBVe93wOL0o32c3opbYsp5wztpduQvDFbA=w1651-h929-s-no

We will use this target for a couple of drills; Casino Drill and SHO/WHO "triangle" drill.

AP1GczPlyNNK6JVfOBNZFkGOk24Zux7rmjK_6pVTKE8Q6s7qrqqt8-CEy6ppQeoVeU3Ldn8sCNCECBnbT_l9s13IXrKtWXTmnugpZov7IK6TEtIRNZBRTCYRtQ2cMqg7anlQRD6oJu1sWPNIdUUdcltNPuufaA=w1651-h929-s-no

The Casino Drill: Three magazines with 7 rounds. Put one hit on #1, two hits on #2, three hits on #3, and so on up to six hits on #6. The drill takes 21 rounds and you have to perform your mag reloads when necessary while remembering where you left off in order to put the proper number of hits on each number. I had a pretty good time but dropped a hit low on 4, 5, and 6 as I was running the drill.

AP1GczPP63IwHRNHsWB2yNbCP7AWShTdr6Wyl-m0-mpO_caVsTDlfh7SooyNzpWjiNeQs5xx-OcphMKv-JITMjGPmS-hc9TodbLZLt7jJDdU3gPQK8jD0NEVngCjT4JZQmJ6Uq7n31s04B77ItlBuhrigtTZ0A=w1651-h929-s-no

Then the instructors drew triangles on the targets. The drill was to put 10 hits on a triangle with Strong Hand Only, then transition to Weak Hand Only and put 10 hits on the other triangle. Mine was spread out a little more than I wanted. At least the instructor complimented me on the fact that they were all centered.

AP1GczPTpVHdweBUpp5i63bQupT9w_47EYIM1rgnPCUJRrpXReHctuYspCkqzW_v_r9p_YuAP2T4YnDsZ06DehsSRHau4o2xmciX3jmZ7N5zcfDg53dC0PBliIfslQrb0l_641q6aokuKwxl1FSeWSvTsM4ZAQ=w1651-h929-s-no

With the ammo we had left on our magazine, we were instructed to do a little more practice. I chose to put 10 more hits using Weak Hand Only on the #1. The first couple were low but then I got it together.

AP1GczP3T60jH8746LByh5PhToeLhLfdy9a4_OeU2HrBp3aLvx8kxNvlsuGrlvu7L1q0nOmoAOqSO8Bk1Inf4pme-iP9YBTBVBHWDjf92tpyLrvUL5K-jIlS-Pv_cSStTyE7YA6QzF83Zv1lFh0s8o5punYG1Q=w1651-h929-s-no

The next exercise was fun. We were to put three hits on the paper, then lean around it and put two hits on the steel behind.

AP1GczPCHvmPzit7GPkymlhoE03JPiOxemavXHA6sMA16WDhcK8jy7tyPINek5LFGXhFsPjvRm1IbsOyUlcw-tymbKksBnRVLB5TPNcxcEuEqriFmBYabTm48fbsUgUQYO9YQBi39e3eOcbXQXwWPVM-5WWjAg=w1651-h929-s-no

The paper was at 7 yards and the steel was at 15 yards. I did pretty good on this one. It's fun ringing the steel. :p

AP1GczPssg11oqhU4LhzKYZ_eS87g1qE-gczAt_napOSQ1fdCkeSIWdi8qSBBuiM6TPiKauLJEJRvLjebC3jmuNUQQcRrzTIpQYzefF1fa6wUH9Cddz5MLUMb7OI839yIEjv_NEP9vIHE9OGt3Lj6D9QjzMtSg=w1651-h929-s-no

Now it's time to setup for the Fletcher Standard Drill. I have video of my run.

AP1GczMmowmo9nPOGVzIw1IRaiUT3rnrvt_fSOsN7JTvIaYBRKy5MSHfki0AWeD39EFj2pSvyIMoWlTRvINGPaTwa1-6dDwjJychVxRS2u2z0GfWqyxjznaQI3Kkivk9jIeitNBhpSdr5B8mZWBr6t_A-Q3gEw=w1651-h929-s-no

We each had two runs of the Fletcher Standard Drill (3-chest, 2-head, reload, repeat on 2nd target). On my second run I could not find my magazine so I was unable to complete my second run. Doh! I had left the magazine in my pocket instead of putting it in my mag carrier.

AP1GczMgd4ZZ8ZhBglhFm9ZL05f4sBP2ARKfMOYI6AxcdiXNjxUtC5cD9O_ohG8GXH0Fdo6VX54XcmvsRxR-qJCvfi6CMGEe-0FDtFOigRMuGOJvOAexWleSZa_zyRVhfHL2frRJv8kgeclaDR4beS5jI23RQA=w1651-h929-s-no

My first run was clean in under 10 seconds. This is consistent with my "intermediate" patch I currently carry. I'm trying to get under 8 seconds to earn the "advanced" patch. One of these days. That's all the planned exercises so we were able to shoot some steel before we cleaned up. I had fun knocking the hostage target back and forth.

It was a beautiful sunset over the berms.

The class policed the range, loaded the gear, and left it better than we found it.

Here's a parting view of the Law Enforcement training range where we have our outdoor classes. I plan to come back and take advantage of their other ranges.

As promised, here's video of some of my exercises. First is the diagonal motion drill followed by one and a half runs of the Fletcher Standard drill. Seems my phone was a little glitchy at first. Sorry about that.

And that was all the fun I had. I need to shoot outdoors more often. I'll have to see if I can do anything about that. Thanks for hanging out. Blessings to all.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Hey guys!

I'm glad you guys stopped by.

Nicely done sir. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. I did pretty good, I guess. Still working on a couple things. ;)

Good job!

You are too kind! But that's OK. I can take it. :D

Young Fella it looks like another fun and successful day. As always your write up was fantastic. Been thinking about sending you the info so you could write my reports. Gotta love the outdoors esp. when popping targets. Good work

Yes, it was fun. And studying the video shows me some weak spots to work on. That's why we train.

Yew sure a handsome young feller there agent.

Ha! I'm younger than some, but older than most. :p At least the grandkids think I'm a funny old man.
