Range Report - 10 Aug 26 - SA Operator 5” and SA Emissary 4.25”

Got to range today to sight in Acro P2 on the Operator and put some rounds through Emissary, both .45s. Was using the Syntech Flat Nose 230g/830 FPS for zeroing. No zeroing targets available so used this one, at 10 yards. A WAG, since only 7 and 15 marked on wall.

Shooting at tops center circle with Operator/Acro P2, first 3 were low, but seemed centered. Cranked about 3/4 full turn to raise, and this was how next 8 came out along with first three, still center #2. The highest miss was on me. Put a final 5 into top left #1 and figured I’d leave it alone. This was all 2H standing, no rest.

Then I checked zero on Emissary with top right #3. First 3 were to the left in circle, quick adjustment, all good. 2 misses all me 😂.

Next two targets are backwards. Operator is on Emissary target and vice versa. Some kind of shooting class came in after I started (not the range) and filled all the lanes, with 4-5 extra folks behind them. And an instructor. So all of a sudden crowded, extra hot, and nowhere near an enjoyable shooting experience. And I got in a hurry (safely), hence reversed targets.

So this is how did with Operator 5” after Acro p2 dialed in.

And this was actually with Emissary. I may need to change optic as I really don’t care for chevron style dot. Vision not good enough to see top tip while focused on target so was pretty much using whole chevron as dot…where I’m sure a solid dot would be faster.

AIMPOINT seems solid on the Operator, though overkill for range gun, no doubt 😂. Also have to careful in and out of stand up pistol safe. Due to height at rear, have to twist sideways a bit to avoid dinging optic on safe shelf. Other than ridiculous crowd, enjoyed another day of shooting!

Update. As I was cleaning Emissary (just finished), I discovered that BOTH optic to plate screws had backed out, one just barely and one holding on by half a thread or so (just about all the way out). What I was blaming on an optic chevron reticle could have easily been an optic bouncing all over the place.

It’s been so long I’ve had an optic come loose, I stopped regularly checking. That’s a “My Bad” for sure!

Hi @Lab4Us,

Nice job finding zero so quickly. I love it when the holes touch. Even with all the commotion from the class you did a really nice job on the targets. Vital Dude certainly got his come-uppence.

I feel your frustration with loose optics. At my last session, once I got zero, I was having a pretty good day until the final target got wonky. Sure enough, the optic had loosened up again. Maybe I'll get off my lazy butt and fix that today. Thanks for sharing your fun!

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
