Posted a thread this morning with photo of my new Ronin EMP 4” after I cleaned it up out of the box (picked up from LGS yesterday), promising a range report. Here it is.
Purpose - validate functionally, try different ammo, have fun.
Rounds - 200, in this order. 50 x Sellier & Bellot 124g FMJ, 50 x Federal Syntech Range 124g TSJ, 50 x Federal LE Tactical 124g HST, 40 x Federal Syntech Defense 138g SJHP. Saved last 10 Syntech Defense to HD/EDC.
All firing off hand, 2H standing.
There were zero malfunctions across all ammo. I added some shooter’s lube after first 100 rounds (because gun was new).
I did learn my indoor range lanes are not set up to emphasize a front fiber optic sight…at all. And validated my struggling eyesight using irons.
Set up initial target (Cornhole) at 7 yards for the first 100 rounds. Here was first 10 rounds to check sight alignment.
Next 10 realizing needed better combat hold. Followed by 10 more, 10 more, then final 10 Sellier & Bellot to center, along with 10 Syntech Range into each bean bag and the final 10 aiming between circles just under word Cornhole via mag dump.
Next up was VITAL DUDE!
3 yards, 5 rounds each shoulder, slow fire
5 yards, 10 rounds center, fast as on target
7 yards, 10 rounds center, fast as on target
15 yards, 5 rounds center, slow fire
3 yards, 5 strings of 2 to center, 1 to head, fast as on target
Here is target after first 50 (124g HST). Threw one round at 15 yards between ribs and right arm. Thought that was pretty good with no optic and 4” barrel!
I was going to run same drill on same target and started with shoulder shots. When I tried to move to 5 yards, discovered target mover was malfunctioning and couldn’t move target forward or back. Decided to just finish my last 30 rounds (Syntech Defense) where it was (3 Yards). Mag dumped 10 into center, mag dumped 10 into head, then decided to finish last 10 with structured aim into the throat. I liked my finish! Thoughts on gun after this last target.
Upon picking up gun, I could find no issues with finish. When I disassembled, I found some marks under slide stop that looked like it was put in place before frame finish set or whoever assembled it rushed. This gun uses pin in RSA and when in place you can remove/insert slide stop without manipulating slide - no reason for blemishes around slide stop. Not visible with slide stop in place. There were also a few small internal spots on slide where they missed with the finish, only visible when disassembled.
When I took it apart this morning for first cleaning, then lube and reassemble/function check, it felt and sounded gritty, but function checked perfectly so left it alone. After range cleaning, lube, reassembly, griitynfeeling/sound seemed to have resolved itself.
Slide stop and magazine release button worked perfectly. Trigger felt fine to me, but I’ve never complained about any trigger on any gun so YMMV.
I paid $801.99 for this gun from KYGUNCO (their Firstline option was out of stock). I would do it again! I feel I shoot this gun, irons only, almost as well as I shoot other higher priced guns in my collection, most with optics attached.
Springfield had a Mitch Rosen OWB leather holster in stock for it, now on its way to me. Almost forgot, the extra magazines I picked up from Springfield were also very reasonable!
Fun day, fun gun, good day!
