Got my eye on something but is it worth the while

at least...2 things..

1) it has a Bull barrel, and to me they are a SOB to field strip......

i had a S/A gun with a Bull barrel, i think it was the Emissary, and i quickly regretted it...and dumped it.

there were none to rent......(the Emissary was a 45 ACP however)

2) it is a double stack grip for ammo........best compare to an ordinary handgun for grip size.

if you have smallish hands like i do, you will NOT be able to firmly grasp it....(as i said, the Emissary was a 45 ACP)

an ordinary 1911 (single stack) magazine and thus grip fit me comfortably.

best you rent one out first.

Ok I’ll admit that I been looking at the Prodigy lately. It’s a hit or miss if I find it in my travels. So basically I haven’t held it yet.

My questions are. How reliable are they? How hard is it to field strip it? Does the take down like a traditional 1911?
Before my indoor range closed, I rented one, really liked it, as said, grip is wider, also as @Old_Me said it’s a bull barrel design, best to watch a video on it first before you take it down, one is on my want list as soon as I catch up on medical bills, sure you will like it.

I’ll definitely look and see who has one for rent. I still have a CZ 75 compact to get off of layaway. With that been said, I got some time to make sure I like it.

Also these are very nice and very affordable, friend got one and does it shoot, very tight pistol for the price….just a FYI

I looked at those and my biggest concern is finding magazines for them. Just remember I’m in a blue state that hates us 2A people

They do make a 10 round version

Have read the newer Prodigy's run well. There were a lot of issues with earlier pistols. Never owned one. Looked at one 6 months ago when shopping (settled on a Kimber 2K11) then again a comp'd version recently at my LGS. Slide to frame is on the loose side. 10 round magazines can be found under $35. Current prcing is pretty aggressive if you shop. My Kimber 2K11 is a black OR 9MM purchased 6 months ago . Kimber is much tighter better trigger feel to me. What do you plan to do with it? Plink, bullseye, competition? Tons of upgrades and parts available for Prodigy & 2011 if you decide to upgrade. Changed grip from aluminum to MJD composite and Red Dirt curved #3 trigger along with left hand mag release.

Had a Prodigy for a while ..... Very early one with under a 1700 serial number. Never got to where I liked it a lot.
A Marvel Cut on the slide really helped with issues it was having. Magazines needed cleaned up from burrs on the feed lips that never got cleaned up after the stamping.
Hated having to use plates to mount optics. They were pretty hard to find back then.

Out of the 2011 guns I tried. The only two I currently own are a Wilson Combat EDC X9 Experior and a Dan Wesson DWX Compact, neither which is a true 2011. The DWX gets shot the most since I really like the CZ 75 style grip frame.

I would suggest reviewing the history on this very website regarding issues with the platform. There were tons of different threads covering that topic soon after launch. Maybe they all got fixed 🤷‍♂️.

They may have fixed it. If I can find one to rent and try out.

I seen the Dan Wesson DWX while looking at stuff lately. I know I been on the CZ fanboy kick lately and yes I like the 75 style grip frame. Personally I’m try to remember there’s other styles out there and expand my style.
