Friends and neighbors,
I had a pretty good day at the older facility. There's some new banners out front. The FAM is the Fletcher Arms Membership. It's a good deal and a nice community to belong to.
When I arrived, the parking lot was full. Strange. Turns out the range itself wasn't that busy so, believe it or not, I was able to procure my favorite lane, #10. Whooda thunk it?
Today I was practicing with the XDM Elite 4.5 OSP 10mm and XD9 Mod.3 w/Holosun 507C, Freedom 180 grain 10mm ammo and PPU 124 grain 9mm ammo. I'll put 100 rounds through each pistol.
I started with the XDM 10mm, my usual B-8 target at 10 yards. I did not use my special glasses for the first couple of targets (using a clear lens instead of the bifocal on the top of the lens over my right eye). My front sight was very fuzzy but that's how I would have to shoot in a self defense situation. At least the fiber optic front sight helped. Here's target #1 with a full 15 round magazine.
One of these days I'll keep them all in the black. That's my goal for this new 10mm pistol, always working toward consistency. Here's target #2 with 15 rounds.
N/G means "no glasses". This one had more hits in the 10 ring but also more outside the black. I'll put on my special shooting glasses for the next couple of targets. Let's see if I can be more consistent when I can see the front sight clearly. Here's target #3.
Meh, still three out of the black. OK, here's the last 10 rounds from this box on target #4.
Yick, sorry my printer didn't do such a good job on this batch of targets. There's only two out of the black on this target but fewer in the 10 ring. Let's take a break from the 10mm and have some fun with my optic on the Mod.3.
The next target is a little better. I'm trying to get the dot on the optic "right there" when I present. It's getting better.
I figured if I used a shoot-n-see target I would have to shape up, because everyone on the range could see my hits.
I guess that wasn't too bad so I'm going to patch up this target and put 20 hits on it.
Hey! I got a few hits touching and got a little raggedy hole started. How about a glam shot?
Now I'll put my special lens back on and put 50 rounds on my favorite target with the XDM 10mm. It's starting to get really fun to shoot this pistol.
My goal for this target has always been to keep all the hits inside the 9 ring. If you gimme a couple of line breaks, there's only one hit on the outside. I kinda like the way this target is looking, a few hits touching, a bit of a raggedy hole. Not to toot my own horn, but the guy in the lane next to me said "Wow, you don't miss." I thanked him for his kind words and decided to take another glam shot.
Now I'm going to try the same thing, 50 rounds using the XD9 Mod.3. I'll practice presentation with the dot, firing quickly for the first 10 rounds, followed by double taps and triple taps. The last 10 rounds from this box will go toward the head.
Well, some of my quick hits from low ready were a bit low. The double and triple taps were a bit more on target. I missed one of my head shots, putting seven of ten hits inside the 3" bullseye. All in all, not too terrible for an old geezer with bad eyes. Oh, wait, glam shot? Sure.
Ya know, I was so proud of my 10mm target I brought it home. Mrs. BassCliff would not let me hang it on the fridge. So I hung it on the wall of my basement laser range.
That's it. Just a simple course of action today, mostly plain old accuracy practice with the new 10mm and optic pistols. Even though I had brought the Ruger Mark IV in my gun case, I did not shoot it today. I had to stop and get sandwiches on the way home before Mrs. BassCliff and I went to our Wednesday night Bible study. Maybe next time I'll have some fun with the Mark IV. Until then, thanks again for putting up with me. I'm trying to make you proud.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
