Just bought an XD-M Elite 10mm, and having second thoughts based on the slide rails

I used four different ammo types, and did not have one misfire or feed issue. Out of the box it had literally no detectable oil. All I did was wipe down the recoil assembly and the barrel with oil, and then trail a fine line down the the rails. I am nowhere near accurate with it, compared to...

Just bought an XD-M Elite 10mm, and having second thoughts based on the slide rails

Thanks. I am on my way to the range now to fire it for the first time.

Just bought an XD-M Elite 10mm, and having second thoughts based on the slide rails

Thanks - I have an AR-style .22 from S&W that is nearly all polymer, (excepting the bolt and barrel) and I was dubious when I saw how little metal there was in it. But this is a 10mm, so my concern is greater. I appreciate your feedback. Has anyone else anything to report in terms of...

Just bought an XD-M Elite 10mm, and having second thoughts based on the slide rails

This is why I asked for expertise or insight. To let those who just opine save their time for something more subjective. I am not guessing. The material comprising the rear rails rises continuously from the rear of the grip. There is no metal insert as it seems you suppose. It is obviously...

Just bought an XD-M Elite 10mm, and having second thoughts based on the slide rails

I had handled the pistol at the store, and combed through the various online reviews. My only significant concern was for the trigger safety being polymer. I have a few guns with polymer triggers, and haven't had any issues with them so far. But today after bringing the XD-M home for the first...

More 10mm, less .45, for me...and a carbine would be nice

    KV refers to Kastovia, maybe?

Surprised to find a Springfield 1911 wouldn't de-cock with only the hammer and trigger

That sounds risky, if you can't control the backstrap safety with your firing hand. Most people can't hold back the hammer with the right hand AND squeeze the backstrap safety with their right hand, at the same time UNLESS the hammer meets the backstrap safety. What I saw with the Springfield...

Surprised to find a Springfield 1911 wouldn't de-cock with only the hammer and trigger

I think you mean "duck-bill" but the Springfield seemed to have the normal angle but no matter how hard one presses back on the hammer, it would not meet the backstrap safety.

More 10mm, less .45, for me...and a carbine would be nice

That is how I felt about several of the AR9s I considered before settling on the Springfield. I want to spend my time learning to shoot better, and not learning to become gunsmith enough to work through the problems of a franken-gun.

Surprised to find a Springfield 1911 wouldn't de-cock with only the hammer and trigger

Perhaps I don't have experience with a range of 1911-style pistols enough to say whether this is common. I am referring to using the firing hand to thumb back the hammer far enough that it engages the backstrap safety, at which point one can pull the trigger and slowly let the hammer down to...

More 10mm, less .45, for me...and a carbine would be nice

LOL - definitely not close to an AR-style rifle. By this I mean the charging handle, safety, eject button, and mag well like the Saint Victor series.

More 10mm, less .45, for me...and a carbine would be nice

I am curious whether you looked into the BCA 10mm carbines and whether any manufacturer has done it well enough to consider buying the whole rifle from one source.

More 10mm, less .45, for me...and a carbine would be nice

STI doesn't currently offer a 10mm or a .45 - I think at least partly because their main customer base has a real preference for 9mm. Right now 9mm is half the price of 10mm, easier to shoot, and the guns are easier to work with. (lighter, easier to rack in a round, etc) I have both a .308...

More 10mm, less .45, for me...and a carbine would be nice

There was always a time when everything wasn't reliable, before some manufacturer put the time and effort into solving the problems. While high-end 10mm pressures are a very different animal, I am confident that the engineering solutions could be found, IF there is a market for it. I am saying...

More 10mm, less .45, for me...and a carbine would be nice

Very happy with my Saint Victor 9mm rifle. I was delighted when it was announced, but was a little reticent because of the Colt pattern magazines. I bought one after being able get hands-on with one at my local Scheels. With the right loading tool, the stick mags work fine. (Without the...
