    I love the 10mm. I have a xd-m elite 4.5 10mm that shoots great and is a lot of fun.

    I don't know about the whole shooting from the hip thing but, shooting with the gun close to the body at chest high could be very useful. If I should ever have to clear my house or something similar, I don't want my gun sticking out at arms length when entering a room.

    22lr is an excellent assassination round. As a defense round, not so much. But if it's all you can handle, it beats nothing.

    The Art of One-Handed Shooting

    One thing that wasn't covered here is when shooting non dominant hand, a 45 degree cant helps to align the sights with your dominant eye. I don't remember where I read that but, it sure works for me.
