Depends on where the belt loop is on the pants. I have cut the first belt loop to my right side off of Lee blue jeans so I can slide fore and aft as needed. i.e. standing vs sitting in an auto. (Right handed shooter).

Thankfully not too many jungle vines between the house and Walmart. Just attempting to add humor. Makes PERFECT sense in wooded combat scenario.
