Compensated 10 mm for concealed carry?

Over penetration of what, exactly? I think that “myth” is largely overblown and is what has led to these fluted fly-weight projectiles like the Lehigh stuff. But hey, to each their own. Given today’s environment and the likelihood of a vehicle situation I’d opt for a load that could defeat...

1986 VS 2026: Guns And Ammo Pricing

I remember distinctly buying my first Glock (17) in 1987. Small shop in Hover, AL. Can’t recall the name, but they had their Glocks on a wire clothes line and you could walk up and spin the one you wanted. Price was $299, still seemed like a lot of money back then. Now I see Glocks going...

What is your absolute favorite handgun and caliber.

True. It’s all in the recoil. I like the standard or plow handle on my 41s and 44s. I have found the Bisley more pleasant on my custom 45, my 480 and 500JRH. Of course, YMMV.

The Story of the .30-30 Winchester: America’s Original Deer Cartridge

Great cartridge for the south eastern US. Killed my first deer with a 336 Marlin almost 40 years ago. I would not hesitate to go forth and kill stuff east of the Mississippi with one.

    Replaced my carry ammo today

Agreed. Although I carry a snubby 38, I change my ammo twice a year when the time changes for the exact same reasons. That carry ammo then goes into a 5 gallon bucket for the next range trip.

    New (to me) Model 700

Barrel life is one those impossible to predict things. It’s all a matter of the loads, the frequency of shots, and acceptable accuracy to the shooter.

Magnum in the Middle: Why the .41 Magnum Should Be More Popular

If you handload and have any Unique, 8.7 gr will run a 200- 210 gr FP for about 1000 FPS in a 6" barrel (work up). In my 41s, I've also used 7.0 gr. of 231 under a 215gr LSWC for many years. OAL is 1.540. Accurate in any 41 I've ever shot, and easy to shoot all day. Also Around 900-1000fps...

    Dolly Parton just passed

Never really listened to her...but I'm sure every single radio station in the US will play her songs for the next 6 months, and the Hallmark Channel will play every single movie she was in and directed. Cue any other video/movie/show she ever appeared in. She's easy on the eyes, that's for sure.

How Do I Work My New AR?

Credit the popularity of the AR to the GWOT.

    New (to me) Model 700

Yep. I had a conversation with Gale McMillian (McMillian stocks fame, renowned barrel maker and benchrest shooter) back in the late 90s, and he was of the opinion that a 300-Win Mag had a useful barrel life of 100-1200 rounds.

Hochul Vows to Block Trump’s Pro-2A ATF Reforms

People vote for their candidates based on false promises. It’s simple. Can’t really trust any of them, and you know they are lying when their lips are moving. Lots of folks quickly forgot the bump-stock ban that was eventually overturned.

Magnum in the Middle: Why the .41 Magnum Should Be More Popular

Earlier this year I picked up a basically NIB three screw 41, blued, 4 5/8ths barrel with all original paperwork, at a price I just could not ignore. I say, you have more fun when you get it done with a 41! I also have 2 RedHawks that are sequential serial numbered in 41 Magnum. They are the...

Hornady's 22 Creedmoor Ultimate Predator Cartridge

Twist any of them tight enough and they all sling heavy for caliber bullets to a degree it’s nearly impossible to differentiate.

What is your absolute favorite handgun and caliber.

This is like asking which of your children or grandchildren are your favorite. The answer will vary. I guess today, for me, 45 Colt in a modern (not SAA clone) single action configuration.

Can SA 1911's be modified to fire .45 Super?

Yes, they can. I once had a SA Loaded model (parkerized) that I added a FL guide rod (Wilson), 28lb Wolff recoil spring, X-tra power firing pin spring (came with recoil spring), Wilson Combat flat bottom firing pin stop and a 25lb Wolff hammer spring. At that time I was shooting a hard cast...

    Receivership?

The typical playbook of PE is to bring on a lot of debt in the so-called restructuring of the business in the hopes it will see profitability later. A lot of such businesses that get "vampired" by PE firms eventually go belly-up.

Handguns for Bear Defense: Will Any of Them Stop the Threat?

(checks notes) Yeah, a hit from either a 10 or a 45 (anything) is going to hurt and leave a mark. I prefer a larger frontal area, and .451 bullets have more frontal area than either 10mm or .44 mag. I have loaded 275 grain bullets in .45 ACP, and 45 Super, at usable velocities, but tend to...

New Digital Surveillance Tools Threaten Gun Owner Privacy

I once read (somewhere) that the real goal of terrorism is to change the way you live your life ... to not be completely free. Surveillance has certainly become the new normal since 9/11/2001.

Why You Need a Survival Axe

Good article and food for thought. I like to throw a saw in my pack too. Both have their uses and place, but it's a lot more difficult to hurt yourself with a saw than it is an axe.
