    Best long range caliber

Well, it seems to boil down to two cartridges, the 6.5 CreedMore or 338 Lapua. According to others, some ranges won't even let you on with the 338 unless it's silenced. It's also twice as expensive to reload. I've been reloading all my adult life, so I have some experience there, but I use a...

    Best long range caliber

I don't hunt anymore, but I've always liked shooting long distances, and even ordered a special Winchester Model 70 22-250 with a 24" (maybe 26, I can't remember) bull barrel (many) years ago with a Unertal 15x scope for Woodchucks and gophers at 500 yards. (13+ lbs total) I like to reload...

    75 GR with 4064 in 223

To C. Sumpkin. Oh yes, it's the length. my Sierra 55 gr HP (flat bottom) mikes at 0.730" and the Hornady 75 gr BTHP at 0.996" And a cylindrical powder requires more space in a cartridge than a ball powder. I believe there's a difference in length between the Varget and 4064 powders...

    75 GR with 4064 in 223

My apologies for being late. I've been working on the house to sell next Spring and has consumed a lot of my time. Doesn't matter I guess, because although I have 100 of Hornady's 75 gr Black ammo, and lots of bullets and primers, I have no powder to reload. I've been calling and still no...

    75 GR with 4064 in 223

I read somewhere that my Hornady 75 gr BTHP bullets shouldn't be used with this powder because of the long cylindrical nature of the powder, although Lyman says it's ok. So although it's similar, I'm on the lookout of Varget for the same purpose. I know it's long and has to be able to fit in...

    GLOCK’s Forgotten Six Inchers

I used a Glock 34 in 9mm for years for IDPA shooting, and it's still the most popular gun for that event. (Not my opinion, fact) I had a trigger kit installed, new sights and an extended mag release, and I can't remember what else Glock did when I send it back for competition use. For IDPA, the...

    AR Twist and long bullets

I guess I'll have to find out what they cost and the quality levels. I'll stick to 16" but have a 1:7" twist. I don't want to kill any pigs (we don't have them here anyhow), but have a heavier (not 85 gr) HPBT shape for increased accuracy at the longer ranges and less deviation due to wind...

    AR Twist and long bullets

If military standard is 1:7, should I seek out a 1:7 barrel to swap into this gun? How much and who would I use in your opinion? The reason for not wanting the 55 gr is that I want to shoot longer distances with a scope. I don't use it for home defense or hunting. (I could, but I'm much better...

    Wives Who Carry

I shot a lot of IDPA, and a Tuesday night "mini-IDPA" where there were more woman trying to learn to use the new 9mm gun their husband bought for them. I'll take a hit for this, but woman are wonderfully nice, forgiving creatures but lack that mindset that prevents them from wanting to shoot or...

    AR Twist and long bullets

Hello, Early last year (maybe a year earlier) I bought a new Springfield Armory Saint AR-15. I made some changes to it, but all in all, it seems like a pretty nice gun, never having owned an AR before. I encountered a problem with bullets. This gun has a 16" barrel with a 1:8" twist. Before...
