165 Grain 40 S&W Is It Dead?

all you need to convert a p320 in 40s/w is a 357sig barrel. no need to change anything else as you need the 40 mag as the 357sig uses the same base/body diameter as a 40s/w & 10mm. the slide is designed to accept the same size face (bolt face as you will) as the extractor is made for it also unlike converting a 40s/w to 9x19 or the other way around. recoil spring will be the same weight (usually 15-16# up to 18#). when looking at the p226 sig offers a conversion to 40s/w if you have the 357sig version or a 357sig barrel if you have the 40s/w on their site. i have a p226 originally (factory built) 357sig and may get a 40s/w barrel for it 1 day?

i've read that converting a cz in 40s/w to 357sig doesn't work very well or does a beretta 96 (40s/w) to 357sig? i haven't found out for myself if it works or not mechanically as i wouldn't mind doing a conversion on the ts2 blue in 40s/w along with buying a beretta 96. finding barrels chambered in stock or having a custom barrel maker make 1 for either is a difficult thing! conversions to and from 357sig/40sw in glock, s/w (m/p's), sig and for xdm's is possible which is why i might get a 357sig barrel for the 40s/w xdm precision (5.25" barrel) 1 day. i can only get that in a factory length for the precision (i'll need to double check for sure), but can get a extended threaded or extended ported in the 4.5" xdm's.

easy answer to this drawn out post is YES it can be done with just a barrel swap

some weak and low recoil 10mm are similar to top 40 cal loads. But then what is the point of doing that with a 10? The better 10s are like the sig loadings and the best ones, buffalo bore, underwood etc are closer to 41 mag. It is similar to some .44 mag loadings, some are weak, most are decent and some are kickers. Pick your poison.

I did exactly that with my Sig 229, best of both worlds now.
