9mm Mainspring Weight

From Dawson Precision...

My Staccato xc and xl run great with minor power 9mm and a 7lb recoil spring and 16lb main spring ( 1.5lb trigger on xl and 2lb on xc) Use 8lb in 5" Prodigy comp. (2.5lb trigger).
All depends on ammo and desired result. I use above guns for range and Steel Plate Challenge.

9# recoil spring? That seems light. But the mainspring is what I was wondering about, and this confirms what I thought I heard Bill Wilson say on a YouTube video. Thanks for the response.
Yea, my RO Operator in 9mm had the 9lb rebound spring, to many times it wouldn’t go back into battery, switched to a 12lb spring like my Kimber 9mm 1911, issue went away

Hi,

What is the mainspring weight of a 9mm 1911 Loaded Target model?

I just wanted to say, "Welcome to the forum!" :D

I'm sure you'll find the springs you like. Seems I changed the recoil spring on my 9mm Ronin, but I'd have to check my documentation.

Anyway, let us know when you take your Loaded Target to the range. We like range reports. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

My SA 1911 wouldn't return to full battery with the oem 9#. Couple that with the tight slide to frame clearance. I called SA customer service to confirm that spring rate. It was confirmed, the customer service rep said that was what they used in all of their 1911 9mm pistols. Mine was a carry gun, not just a range gun and I wanted consistent and reliable function. A 12# spring and an established 1911 shop corrected the clearance problem.

I second an 11 - 12 lb spring. I felt the stock 9 pounder was too light, It is my opinion that they use a 9# because a lot of people will shoot only the cheapest low powered 115 grain loads. My preference is for 124 grain S&B, Norma etc that are in the 1181 - 1200 fps range ( or 123 grain Lapua combat at 1164 fps from a 4" barrel

I tried a 12 pound and an 11 pounder ; Both worked well but I liked the 11 pound spring a little better so that is what is in my 5" Ronin 9mm.

I also removed that XXP fireing pin spring SA uses with the Ti FP and put is an Xp from Wolff that came with the recoil spring. No light strike issues and does Ok with a pencil test.

No way. Way too light for commercial loads.

Wolff says most are 14# to start in 9mm.
Kimber, and a few others use the 12lb spring, 14lb may be good for 124-147grs, in a .45, I use 18 1/2lb variable rate spring. I usually leave the stock mainspring alone, occasionally I will change the firing pin spring. I mostly use Wilson springs, not a big fan of Wolff, or the flat spring type, old school
