ATF’s Hidden Gun Registry: How a ‘Tracing System’ Became a Billion-Record Database

They know what car I drive too...and what meds I take...how im registered to vote

I see your point, so please lets not argue about it. Its just that Im more worried about WHO we are selling guns to and WHO they really are, since we'll sell guns to non citizens and dont require any ID to get an ID--thats what really scare me

Nothing different than everything else in life that someone keeps a record on us.

This site keeps a record of all postings.

Wonder why you get emails from sites you never have visited? The internet keeps a record.

Wonder why a website you've looked at an item for possible buy, then they send you an email wanting you to look at it again? They keep a record of it.

Your bank keeps a record of your fiscal activities, as does the CC companies do on all your purchases with their card.

No wonder they need new & many data centers, since they've run out of space the old fashioned way...

Those Private “No paperwork “ sales could come back to bite you in the rear.
I do a bill of sale on any guns I buy or sell privately. I think its a good idea to keep track of where they came from or where they went. But unless somebody comes knocking on my door with a warrant, nobody will ever see it but me. ;)

Darn, All of this time I thought I had a secret ;) Gotta say I don't care. If you are the original purchaser of a gun, regardless of the number of times it changes hands (without further documentation) the ATF will be at your door if something goes wrong. @KF1977 offers spot on advice when selling / giving guns.

Who is "we'll" as in "we" who will sell guns to those you mentioned? Are you in the U.S,? Are you talking about illegal sales, gun running, criminal enterprises? As a gun owner, while I can sell my gun, for me to be acting lawfully, I must ensure the person I sell to is of age and meets the legal requirements of ownership, which includes citizenship.

Wish you'd knock off sneaking in your political BS into this forum, as if you lay awake at night worrying who has a gun........seriously!

Im just wondering, IF a gun used in a CRIME is found, does anyone not think it should be investigated?

IDK, it seems simple to me __X___company makes a gun
They sell it to ___Y____ distributor
Distributor sells it too ___Z___ gun shop

Should it really stop there OR perhaps...

Shop sells it to John
"Hey John what happen to that gun?"
"Oh my I sold it to Mary"
"Hey Mary wheres the gun you bought from John?"
"I gave it to my son George"
"Hey George wheres the gun your mom gave you?"
"I sold it to.....darn I cant remember; but I did sell it."

Is THAT really too much to ask?

So what if George cant remember who he sold it too, Does he look like the suspect? Does he have a history of buying/selling guns? Does he have certain affiliations that might require further investigation?

Dont want the PD asking you questions, maybe try not involving yourself in certain situations OR dont sell your trackable stuff; but that includes your car or house or or or If you move out of a house and a year later they find a body buried in the back yard, should the PD really not talk to you? What if you had a friend living there while you were working out of town? Do you think its wrong for the PD to ask who that friend was since you dont have any record? What if that friend had a party and other people were there? Is it OK for the PD to ask their names?

doesn't surprise me as well..

everyone keeps records of one type or another

i can't believe there is anything, anyone can do, far from stealing anything to keep THAT off the books any further.
