Made it on so many peoples radar was banned from one IDPA club them as match director at anither club was notified by e mail through the state coordinator that Headquarters IDPA banned him for 2 years and if any sanctioned club allowed him to shoot the club itself would be suspended.

I was at a skeet or trap shoot many years ago where an adult toddler threw his $15,000 Krieghoff on the ground. Some people should not be trusted with firearms. Sheesh, he could have just given that Krieghoff tto me...

This. In the event it saves your life or that of your family it just paid for itself. THE only consideration that matters are (1) is it 100% reliable?; and (2) can YOU hit with it?. If the answer to those two question is YES, doesn’t matter if it costs $400 or $4000.

You call it spot on. What are you using the firearm for? For target and home defense, pick your poison. For CCW, shorter people, like me, have trouble conceal carrying a full size .45, but a Commander-size gun is not impossible. I like to appendix carry and appreciate the Springfield Hellcat for that in my Crossbreed holster. (No optic -- stock sights -- but Powder River trigger and Veridian laser.) But I love my full-size Remington R1 in my drop-leg Safariland retention holster. Love the capacity of the Hellcat, and the easy of carrying an extra mag in my pocket, but I would put the knock-down power of a .45 with the right ammo, such as Hornady Critical Defense/Duty 185/220gr, against the 9mm any day.

Well, we all know what they say about opinions. I carry a 9mm a lot, but NOT because it’s “The best” defensive round. Rather, it works in small ight guns that are easy to carry. For sheer effectiveness on a live target, a bigger, heavier round will inevitable result in a quicker “stop” (despite all the “cartridge doesn’t matter” gurus-all who quickly follow up with “carries more rounds”). ALL rounds are lethal, but to defend oneself lethality plays a distant second place to a rounds ability to bring an attack to and end Right Now. If a thug committing an assault dies from being shot the day AFTER he has proceeded to do You and yours in then it really doesn’t matter to YOU. I’ve been shooting/hunting for 68 years and have seen the effects of different calibers on a lot of critters. If you ever face a dangerous animal you’ll not be wanting a small or medium caliber like a 9 or the new whiz kid 5.7. Frankly the “best” defensive gun/round would a 329 Smith PD if one could handle the recoil well enough to shoot it quickly.. All firearms are compromises, but for sheer effectiveness in a controllable easy to carry package an old fashioned .45 1911 is darn tough to beat. A person should carry whatever works for Them (first rule-have a gun) but do not allow yourself to be fooled into thinking that small bores are “equal” or that capacity can make up for a lack of shooting skill-they aren’t and it can’t. A solid hit from the first or second round trumps a hit with the 10th every single time.

I like compact .45 1911's to be honest. Nothing like being able to beat a perp to death with your primary if it comes down to it LOL 😆 😅 😂 🤣 🙃. I also think they are beauties. My ultra carry two is a thing of beauty. That said my edc 99% of the time is my 3" xd in .40
 
I have one I consider "Custom", it's a gunsmith worked 1918 1911
Sometime after WWI it was polished, had the A1 scallops added behind the trigger, and a set of King Combat Sights added, and it was hot blued.
It's condition and age greatly bely it's monetary value.
I consider it my Barbecue Gun. It's carried rarely, just for the very reason this article lists. I don't want it tagged, and collecting dust in an evidence locker if I'm forced to use it.....

I too like the smaller 45 1911’s, but carry an EMP or a 938 Sig most of the time😏. I’m still hunting for the “perfect” edc-thinking of one the size of the above that hits like a Desert Eagle-no luck so far🙄

357 Sig is a sight to behold....

When I was in BLET, that is North Carolina speak for Basic Law Enforcement Training, or Police Academy .
One of the guys in my platoon was an NC Port Policeman, but until he got his certification, he was unarmed. At that time NC Port Policeman were armed with Sig P229s in 357 Sig.
When we got to the firearms part of our training, he used the Port Police standard sidearm.
At LEO distances, 357 Sig is a LASER BEAM..........
Max qualification distance for pistols here is 25 yards, at that distance 357 Sig is just getting primed.
I've wanted one for a LONG time, but as yet, I haven't been that lucky.

When training novices in basic pistol part of my course was how to choose a defensive pistol I would put out an array of 15-20 guns for them to handle. I told them my criteria for a pistol are, it needs to be center fire; it needs to fit your hand; you need to be able to operate the action and controls; and you need to be able to hit the target. A significant number of them chose not a micro pistol, but a larger framed gun in the Commander range. I think they knew instinctively they would shoot better with the larger platform. Some who came with a micro pistol or revolver that someone else had chosen for them were unhappy with recoil or difficulty in operating the pistol. An itty bitty pistol is not necessarily suited to an itty bitty person. Ease of carry does not necessarily equate to effective defense.
