Beyond The Basics Of EDC

I like that he mentioned carrying a knife as part of the EDC. No matter what handgun I'm carrying that day I have had a Spyderco Endura with fully serrated edge with me for about 30 years.

This is my EDC, including my new to me Bucklite 426.

Everything I'm about to say I've said before.

I worked as a security guard for 15 years. NGL the overwhelming majority of my "career" I was a receptionist with a gun but the client and my employer wanted me to act like a cop without cop authority.

I've said this a bunch of times before but the fact that I had a gun really caused more problems than it solved.

Understanding that I was required to open carry and people knew I had a gun before they ever engaged me, I had people try to take my gun. I had people threaten to take my gun. I had people tell my my gun wasn't real or that it wasn't loaded.

I've talked about the to guys who I think were going to rob me, they backed down when I stepped out from behind my car door and they realized that I was armed but I'm pretty sure that at least one of them was still considered considering it KNOWING I had a gun.

The point I'm trying to make here is that if you assume the bad guy will back down when you draw you might be in for a big surprise some night.

I'm going to finish by repeating what I always say about OC.

All those people (except the potential robbers) who talked smack about the gun backed down immediately when I bypassed the gun and pulled out my OC.

I really believe it's because they don't believe you'll actually shoot them but they absolutely believe you'll soray them

I would think that practice with the non dominant hand and injured hand drills would also be good.

Does anyone carry Calvary style anymore? Seems that method allows either hand to access the handgun (butt forward).
Recognize that’s problematic for concealed carry.
 
I practice single handed draw, point (elbow on/near body), shoot (double) at a silhouette target from arms length to 5yds (max) every few range trips. I use my left arm to possibly defend against the attacker while drawing the gun. Without using the off hand it makes clearing the garment to access the gun more challenging. I feel this would be the most likely scenario for me. Rest of the time generally shooting from 10 - 20yds with some type of purpose.

Reversed , strong side ? Never say never , but essentially never .

But ... Crossdraw , it would apply for being accesable for off hand with twist draw , if need exists .

But that begs the observation about Crossdraw not common , and currently held in generally low regard .

Crossdraw would make more sense. And I’m visualizing how off hand twist draw would work too.
 
Weak hand shooting for the yearly LEOSA Qualification, I suck. I'm going to work on that a lot. I beat a lot of the younger Officers on the rest of the qualification, but weak hand was NO!
