We always family "camped" in established places, better known as a national park. They have toilets, showers, freshwater spigots, etc. If I wanted to rough it I would've joined the Army or Marines.

A first aid kit, hatchet, and trenching tool are on my list.

Decent start, depending on the type of camping I guess....Most defiantly a firearm of some sort I would say depending on which part of the country you are camping in. Take along a couple LifeStraws, they are easy and convenient. I’m not really talking about an emergency vs planned camping trip. Those, to me would be two totally different setups.
