Can I use this vortex tripod for a rifle?

I dont think so, the shooting tripods have a different center attachment point “bowl” you need something that you can insert a 70mm “bowl” attachment plate. Then you can add the shooting heads. Now there are phot tripods that have flat areas to add a head, like my Manfroto for example but the head will be way bigger in diameter but could work.

This is a shorty Manfroto to show you what I am talking about, your shooting heads will be a 70/75mm diameter.

Start with something like a Bog from amazon for under 200 to get you started. That way you can find out what you like

Looking at it more you would have to remove the head (silver area) that connects to the vertical plate. But still this is not ideal, if you look at shooting tripods they do not use verticals that move up and down, the bowl and head attach right at the top of the tripod legs. If you think about it, if you shoot the gun with the extended vertical column you are off axis from the legs and it could tip over. Since a shooting tripods attaches at the top of the legs the center balance is lower even when the legs are extended to standing height.

Bog has some decent tripod options and the fanue adapters are good

I don't really know how to compare the load of a camera to the load (specifically the recoil load) of a rifle but it does need to be considered. A camera, even with a huge lens, is just a vertical load on the tripod whereas a rifle firing is going to put load on the rear legs and take load off the front leg at the same time.

I always made sure my tripod's load rating was at least 1.5 times the weight of my camera, lens, batteries, etc. In other words everything I thought would be hanging on it. In windy conditions I usually hung my camera bag from the center column of my tripod to give it some more stability which is the main reason I used 150% as the load limit.

looks like all you'll need the the adapter R003 that mounts on the stud in the ball head if you don't have the adapter or have the adapter and just bought any ball mounted tripod with the correct threads.

looking better at the tripod description, the part you see with the threads is removable as it's an adaptor. the adaptor attaches to the arca on the rifle arca as long as it's version compatible which maybe the same attachment specs and different looks? since there can be 1/4" and 3/8" threads, some offer both in 1 design. have amazon call you and ask about the tripod and adapter it comes with for better details. ebay will call within 15 minutes after sending an email is why i shop there instead of amazon. if the arca grips the 1.5" wide mloc to arca then you should be gtg. i have very
few arca items so i can't give much info.

as far as the load issue(s) everyone i've seen using a tripod and arca mounts there firearm was balanced on it which usually means it's close to the magwell and haven't heard any talk about recoil issues. some were shooting 30cal magnums this way.

hope that helps.
