Chamber Safety Flags

I usually use them.
Most of the matches I’ve shot require the use of them so I got in the habit.

I like them. It’s a quick way to verify an open action.

I started having the 4-H kids use them. We always have a variety of guns on the tables (different action types, lengths, etc) so it makes it a lot easier to verify that many guns are open and clear. If nothing else, it gets them to place the gun with the ejection port up.

I make them from a piece of string trimmer line and a square of bright colored duct tape for a flag.

Airguns get a full-length flag, CBI- Clear Bore Indicator. The trimmer string is long enough to stick out the muzzle and breech.
With an airgun, a pellet could be stopped anywhere along the length of the barrel, and the next kid could come along, and still have a “live” gun without knowing it.
Good points. We use them in basic pistol classes. In addition to teaching grip, draw, join and extend, many newbies are still new to thumb position, racking, stance and most importantly handling firearms safety in a group of other shooters. Ejection ports up and flagged on the table in between trigger pulls and finding resets is good practice in this scenario and esp reassuring to the instructors.

Hi,

I think I have more locks than chamber flags. They're all in one of the larger SA pistol boxes. The only time I use a lock is when the gun is not in the safe and there's a chance a young child might find where I've hidden it.

If by chance I'm traveling across state lines with a few guns in the trunk, I will use locks 'cause some state laws are screwy. (I sometimes drive through Illinois.) Better safe than sorry.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

i bought a bunch of them, 1 for every gun that i own, and keep each in the pouch the gun and mags are in..the state run outdoor range requires them, they even provide a "thin weed whacker" line, so thin, you can hardly see it..., mine are bigger and thicker.

at the indoor range, if i have to go to the bathroom, i stick 1 in the chamber, pull back the slide and face the gun down range.

at my club, i am the only person there, so no need.
I’m assuming you leave the floor to go to the bathroom? 😇😇😇

I remember that. I don’t think they did. Couple of indoor ranges around here you can come back at closing to get whatever went down range while you were shooting.

I will use a chamber flag if I take a gun to the gunsmith.
In that instance RSO did come in and retrieve. Can find the post but I specifically remember the guy next to me was annoying because he would back up from the line

From the 3 indoor ranges I've been in the last 7 years none were required, what was required was slide locked back, mag out and hands off. Even getting to the line firearm must be in the bag/case, opposed to slide locked back, mag out and pointed in safe direction. I mostly shoot on my property with no one around. Only range rule is "don't shoot myself " wife will be ticked at me for eternity and beyond!

I’m young enough that I can hold myself…😇

…for now.

To me the locks are worthless, I never use them, I keep them in the box in case I decide to get rid of the gun, actually they are very cheap, not a secure lock for safety in my opinion.
if you guys are talking about these locks...i do believe they are all made in Chinesim land

its as you know usually inside every gun box..it satisfies keeping the gun's case, or gun locked (if the gun comes in a cardboard box), until you get it home....at least here in my state.

in my state, maybe others, when you have a ccw, no lock is required

with out that ccw, at least in my state, get caught with an unlocked case or gun, after leaving the LGS, both of you and the LGS are in trouble. as it is now, my LGS IS IN a school zone, been there for years, so for the time being, still grandfathered in.......but the Anti 2A numbnutz's are still trying to abolish that. ...do not forget..Demoncratic's running things here, and it CAN happen.

new legislation prohibits gun stores to be with-in 500 feet of a school....

and yes, i too leave the cable lock in the box/case, usually in the plastic envelope it comes in, for the next owner.
