Compensated 10 mm for concealed carry?

Yes, I actually carry an FN 510 as my concealed EDC.

I am a tall guy with large hands and concealment isn't a problem with IWB or Leather Detective OWB.

What are your experiences with compensated 10 mm? I usually shoot Magtech 180 grain, rn at the range but carry a lighter, Critical Duty for self-defense.

My thought being that while I usually train with both single and rapid double tap at the range, on 3" targets, both moving and stationary, with 90% or more in the black (3"), would compensation be redundant?
There is less muzzle rise with the critical duty. I worry about over penetration or I'd carry the Magtech jhp's.

This might not be a popular choice for smaller guys. Small guns do not work well in my hands.

The only factory firearm with a comp i own is a kimber ds warrior. Other than that I have a plethora of comp'd pistols in many cartridges. The 357sig is my favorite comped to carry when I do as it's close to the same muzzle energy as factory (most factory 10mm rounds) as i reload. Reloads are hotter than 40s&w and just under 10mm power. Recoil is bext to nothing. Im building several 320's in 10mm since they're pretty much like lego's

The only concern I have with carrying a comp'd gun for self-defense would be in a CQB situation. If your attacker is within arm's reach, or has his hands on you while you're fighting him off, and you have to shoot from retention, the muzzle blast (burning powder, bits of bullet plating, etc) escaping from the comp'd barrel could hit you, possibly blind you, if you must shoot right out of the holster without going to full extension.

For an experiment, you might want to hold a piece of paper or cardboard over your pistol and fire a few rounds to see what blows up onto the paper. If there is any appreciable muzzle blast be mindful that it could hit you in the face. I'm sure that would not be comfortable.

Otherwise, if you've trained and you're comfortable carrying that way, then you should be good to go. I like full sized pistols too. I can conceal a full sized grip and a 4"-5" barrel. That's a good thing because I can't hit anything with a 3.5" barrel.

Over penetration of what, exactly?

I think that “myth” is largely overblown and is what has led to these fluted fly-weight projectiles like the Lehigh stuff.
But hey, to each their own.

Given today’s environment and the likelihood of a vehicle situation I’d opt for a load that could defeat sheet metal and windshields.

I’ve never read (even on the interweb!) where an innocent civilian non-combatant was injured by an, “over penetration.”

Just yesterday the NYPD had to take down someone in Times Square at rush hour ….. lots of people around …. any stories of over penetration?

I’ll stick with Hornady critical duty. I do carry it in 9-.40-10.

FMJ for self defense is to ghetto for me. I have seen the FB post from the bigger cities in the states and the ammo is like skittles range ammo.

No to the compensator. A 10mm compact is heavy enough to carry around with 15 rounds. It’s not like carrying around a Hellcat PRO.
