Convair F-102 Delta Dagger

Thanks to the F-102, I started drawing pictures of planes with a delta design. The F-106 was another delta design, improved by its "coke bottle fuselage shape". I also remember drawing a multi-engine bomber with a delta design. Makes me wonder now if the British used that shape with some of their aircraft, like the Vulcan?

I was fortunate enough to have served during a time when the F-106 & Aerospace Defense Command were still front line units. This picture was taken on the flightline at Castle AFB, CA and depicts an F-106 of the 84TH Fighter Interceptor Squadron. You can see the remnants of the F-102 design cues developed by Convair that lived on into the next generation.

Thanks for the memories! I was assigned to the 93rd Security Police Squadron SAC) 1976-79
Image is exactly how I remember from the front of the Alert Billet/Hanger of the 84th”Panthers”
The 3A.M. ADC SCRAMBLE of two F-106’s(alert pilots slid down brass fire poles to enter the hanger) Amid flashing red&yellow lights and warning bells and Klaxons.
The spectacle of these Cold War beauties taking off with full afterburner was something to see for an 18 year old kid from Boston,MA..(tucked behind a phone booth sized BLAST SHIELD!!)

I was at Det 1 84FIS at Fresno in 1970. The 106 was an awesome airplane.
