I have actually seen this. The limb wasn't that big, maybe 4 feet, but it went through the fan shroud, took out the fan and went on to break the rim on a front tire with no other damage.
You run into some interesting things as a mechanic for a city fleet.

My granny was a little smarter than this though ... she put pieces cut from a cardboard box in the space between the sides of the fan and the open window. Man, that was turbo-charging the thing!!! That was better than putting tin foil on the rabbit ears. Ah, the good ol' days!
