academy sports used to be that way.... even the janitor had to look.
now one manager looks at it, gives you a look like she or he is a customs officer at airport, then sends it and hands you the empty bag, so they can walk it to the door and hand you a FIREARM at the exit

I bought a .22 at Bass Pro a couple of months back. Same crap! Took 1.5 hours to do the paperwork.

around these parts, they beat all the LGS folks and usually have what i need in a new item within days .
now if we lived in a big city... might be different i am sure

Around here they have good prices, but never have exactly what I'm looking for. And forget about getting any help or speedy service from anyone behind the counter. All I now buy from the firearms section of Academy is ammo.

I may pay a bit more, but I limit my buying to my little gun store and private dealers at a gun show. It's the same reason I try to buy American when possible.
