Deciding on new EDC

You may want to take a look (and try shooting, if possible) at Beretta’s PX4 Compact Carry from Langdon Tactical. Hammer fired like 1911 but DA/SA with a very nice trigger. Fifteen round mag, and concealable with a good holster. Good luck with your search, and thanks for letting us help spend your money! :)

No worries far from being offended. 😁
No offense intended, I was just ribbing you a bit like biker dudes taking their guns to church (biker club meetings) and having expensive "overkill" as an EDC.

I'd think, either for a pro or civilian, a 9mm should be plenty, especially for a civilian. Consider your contemplation of defending yourself or your frame of mind with the intent, not just to stop a threat but to kill them, with your 50 cal. Desert Eagle, and in some areas even the ammo you might use could become a problem as excessive force (ball vs. hollow point). Off duty LEOs will have different parameters for self-defense than unknown/non-famous civilians.

The other side of CC is simple hiding a full-size frame pistol opposed to the smaller alternatives and that would be unique for you, mine are all 9mm, at times my clothes that day dictate the carry. A H&K 9V, or Beretta APX or Conik Mete MC9, other full-size types are for the range or outside holster carry.

But, pick you poison....... ;)

Staccato C2. 3.9 in barrel. Pic rail. Optic ready, if that’s your thing. I have one and it’s a great shooter. Standard mag is 16 rds, but you can get extended mags. Holsters are easy to find and the gun conceals pretty well considering it’s a double stack. A bit more pricey than the Prodigy, but you get what you pay for.View attachment 91615

I am a DA or HK LEM guy however a double stack 1911 style I do like and would be my choice if I got into them is Wilson Combat DFT9 with 4 1/4”

I like everything about it and it has a regular bushing so no wonky takedown. And no beavertail which if you wirk in weather like I do is one issue with 1911’s beavertail safety picks up moisture and if you dont pull it off for detailed cleaning you will be sorry!

If you’re leaning towards a 1911 style pistol, ever look at the Kimber Micro 9’s….just asking

Quick question for those of you with the Ronin 3”. How is the fiber optic front sight? Is it stable in place or do you have to replace it often?

Reason I ask is that in another life I bought a subcompact SA XD Mod 2 9mm. I had it from 5 Sep 15 (bought new) through 19 Nov 15 (traded toward a DW Guardian .38S) and put 412 rounds downrange. The reason I got rid of it is because the front fiber optic fell out within first magazine downrange, and I never could get any fiber optic (rods or from roll) to stay in place more than one or two range trips. Verified proper diameter more than once along the way and the constant sight falling out was frustrating as all get out. No way was I going to carry it.

Since then, I’ve avoided fiber optic sights unless fully enclosed or on a gun I can easily change the front sight, but I’m seeing more and more high and medium dollar guns (Wilson Combat for example) shipping with front fiber optic sights.

Have they figured out how to keep them from falling out? Especially with high recoil calibers or rapid firing? I would think a 3” Ronin is meant for carry, so I’m interested.

Mine is a four inch, so I can't speak to the three inch sight. I have had no issues yet with mine though.

When I hired on as a Deputy Sheriff we carried our service weapon and a BUG because back up was at least a hour out. Then when I drove truck and ferried cars I wore a shoulder holster and had a backup. As stated before I am not a fan of 9mm, my backup was a 32 or 38 but I do carry a 9 once in awhile because of the improvement of the 9, old habits die hard. All of the agencies I worked for the cool small of the back could not be used even off duty.. I still carry full size most of the time with backup and shoulder holster for me while driving is my choice. I like a pancake especially for my 1911s and I do have ISWB for both my full size XD and 1911. In the past while on the road I was very glad I had a shoulder holster because of seatbelts. When I had to fly to pick up a package or person shoulder holster worked best for most of my endeavors.

This thread reads like a motorcycle thread. everything compared to a Harley, or in this case the 1911.

I have carried and fired the 1911 Colt since I was 12 years old. (my Dad's) Starting when I was 17, carried a 1911 from out of jungle school until 1985. when we got the girls caliber guns that blew up. Shot one once. only hit the target 6 times out of the whole mag.
Got out of the military, hate handguns, so never got another one....

Until 2010, when a bud took me to a handgun shooting day where there was many handguns you could try.
I went straight to the 45ACP area.
shot 4 or 5 different ones. Then my bud handed me a Sig P220. All eight rounds into the center.
Bought it on the spot.
That was in 2010, and Ive carried it everyday since.

Some us do not need 15 round like the cops do to plug a perp until they do not move.
They never think they might be a second perp.
Ive shot op4 with a 45ACP, only took one round.

I've been carrying my trusty model 457 as my only edc for nearly 30 years. I've tried others but always end up with the good ole 457 hanging on my hip. Ergonomically it has just been a good fit both in the hand and in the holster. DA factory trigger pull isn't the best, but far from the worst I've felt. The only reason I've tried other firearms as my edc was 100% weight related. Every time I've tried a lighter pistol, I've found something about it I didn't like.
