Detecting a Tail and What to Do Next

I've said this before but the cops don't prevent crime.

They show up after it's all over to gather evidence and take reports.

You might want to look up Castle Rock V Gonzalez.

The estranged husband of Jessica Gonzalez took their three children and drove them around for several hours before driving into the parking lot of the Castle Rock Colorado Police Department and killing them before the cops could stop him.

Me lying to the cops isn't going to change the final outcome and it might get me in trouble.
They prevent crime in my private Idaho. Not all, for sure, but people here know that they will be prosecuted and pay the price for all crimes, including shoplifting (you will go to jail). So they think twice.

What am I doing in life that somebody has decided to follow me?

I mean, I'm 60 years old and it hasn't happened yet.
Thats not the question in the thread. YOU not being followed ISNT the issue

Castle Rock has ZERO to do with THIS question If you want to play the case law game please choose better

Cops DO prevent crime BY BEING PRESENT, why do you think 7/11 gives free coffee to police. As for showing up AFTER yes sometimes true so getting them there when you need them is the point

My sister was followed all right. In the 70's. Suburbs outside of Seattle. In broad daylight, a man followed her for a bit while she was walking along a sidewalk. He pulled up, got out of the car, approached her from behind and told her "I have a gun, and will kill you if you don't get in my car." Sis was smart. Gun or not, she ran away, screaming as loud as she could. The guy got back into his car and sped off.

A CRAZY Ivan will only alert the bad guy and may make him escalate OR reschedule for another time or victim. Its fine if youre prepared to go full Viking, lacking the lone berserker thing, seek help but get it there ASAP

Is there there? Really? AND you are "making the report" until the officer arrives.

I'm not even completely sure I understand what that means.

AGAIN if this guy is really following you, whats the chances hes doing it for platonic reasons?

IDK I am kinda cute.

YOURE either scared or youre NOT.

TBH I'm one of those weird people that doesn't really get scared till it's all over.

If youre not dont call the police

I'm pretty sure I said more than once I probably wasn't going to call the police.

I guess this is another LOCATION thing Are you more worried about telling 911 you thought he was armed and threatening OR the guy thats actually following you?

First of all, I'm kind of picky about not calling 911, unless I think it's a genuine emergency.
I mean I worked as a security guard for several years, calling the cops is kind of what I did for a living. I know what information they're going to want before they even pick up the phone.

I also know, living in Colorado Springs for 30 years, that you could call them and tell them that there's a car on fire in your parking lot literally and they will tell you it's not a priority call and they're not coming.

And, living in the middle of nowhere where there are no cops, they're not coming anyway.

BUT how'bout if we substitute someones daughter as the one being followed, would you really suggest she wait for a routine call to be dispatched?

I would suggest that she call the police and head for the nearest police station.

I mean, what do you want her to do? Call the police and pull over and wait for them?

My advice to our hypothetical young lady would be to call the police. Tell them where you're at. Ask for directions to the nearest police station and tell them you're driving there.

Meaning what? I know a bit about the law and cops, seeing that my father served 20 years and my daughter is a detective.

Meaning that about half my family are criminals and have records. They're not afraid of the cops. They don't like the cops but they're not afraid of them. Going to jail is a normal part of life for them.

My wife and I don't associate with that branch of the family but the last time that we did they thought it was rather odd that my wife and I hadn't been to jail.

On the 5 PM news our local ABC affiliate gives the police blotter for the last 24 hours or so. The only hit the big crimes but about 90% of them when they show the picture of the suspect it's a mugshot and they point out that the criminal was out on bail for another case.

Threat of incarceration is no deterrent to most criminals

So no cops don't prevent crimes.

True story, Trolls gonna Troll.

If I thought I was being followed, I would take three consecutive right turns.

If the person I suspected of following me kept with me through that I would call the police, give them my location, tell them I think somebody's following me and I don't know why and head for the nearest police station.

That's what I would do.

I don't particularly care what you would do.

Enjoy your day

OK lets take this one step at a time 911 doesnt make the report. They dispatch the Officer who MAKES the report. What you tell 911 only gets the officer moving in your direction

I bet you are cute so maybe you arent being followed maybe hes just flirting?

If youre not scared dont call 911 because youre being followed AND if YOU wouldnt call because YOU arent scared maybe YOURE the exception and someone else is and you suggests dont apply to them

Yes head to a police station or 7/11 (???) but if shes scared get wheels turning

Right. Or someone else.
You arent lying to the police. Youre telling 911 that youre scared and you think he may be armed and threatening. THAT certainly WILL get you police help

IDK sometimes it seems like there are two different threads. Youre either scared or your not. If not why even reply

I'm posting this in two different discussions because it applies to both.

I can only speak from my experience as a security guard in Colorado Springs.

I've seen several discussions recently where people are advised to call the police.

Please don't take this wrong but I question whether some of the people giving that advice have called the police in their town or city recently.

When I worked as a security guard calling the police was literally my job description. I mostly called the police for petty trespassing and I was told it was low priority and they didn't come right out and say they weren't coming but they told me it was going to be a while before they got there.

When they told me that I got a call screen number for my report so that I could prove that I had called the police and did my job to the limit of my abilities.

I was on my way home from the gym shortly before we moved. I stopped at a stop sign (N. Carefree and Hollow) and some homeless guy freaked out on me and started yelling and cussing and all the things.

He pointed a gun at me and I took off. I called the police on my way home. I did not call 911 because I wasn't in immediate Danger.

I decided to time it I was on hold with general dispatch for 17 and a half minutes.

When the call taker picked up the phone and took my report, she asked me if I wanted them to dispatch a unit I don't remember if she actually said that call (MWAG) was a low priority but she certainly implied it.

I told her not to bother because it was going to be hours before anybody got there.

I've old this story before, while I was still working I got home from work one morning and there was an abandoned carpet place in the parking lot behind our apartments, there was a car in the lot on fire. Dispatch told me they'd send somebody out when they could but as long as no one was in Immediate Danger it wasn't a priority.

I've already said this was only my one location but I would invite those of you who suggesting to call the police that you call your general dispatch line and see if you don't run into a phone tree or an answering machine.

I really haven't had cause to call the police since that first story I told you and that was a year and a half ago?

I don't know how to say this but in my life I don't bother to call the police unless I truly believe that somebody's going to die if I don't.
