Didn’t know about this with federal champion 9mm

I was putting away my 2 boxes of federal champion and saw this on the side.

Because the bullet is not a true FMJ it is played and will flake

At a Rangemaster Advance Instructor class even non ported was getting flacks on the target around the entry home at 7 or so yards.

It’s sort of cheap junk ammo and I stay away from it if I can.

Of build some hand strength so you don’t need a comp for the massive recoil of the 9mm…LOL JK

Hi,

The generic Blazer Brass is also not recommended for ported barrels. The copper coating over the lead bullets is not bonded so well and could separate as it leaves the ported barrel. You don't want to get hit with those flakes, especially in the eye. From the CCI website... https://www.cci-ammunition.com/handgun/blazer/blazer-brass/6-5200.html

@Jsimon78, I'm glad you saw that warning on the box. I don't use Federal very often. Thanks for letting us know.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Yeah, if you’re running a ported or comped pistol check your ammo when you buy. Plated ammo will foul everything up, as will the lead projectile under the plating.

Parker Mountain Machine who make compensators have a list of ammo to use and avoid. This is actually based around velocity of respective ammos, but is a good go by.

Ammo Recommendations:

115gr:

Federal American Eagle

Speer Lawman

Wolf

Remington UMC

Sig Sauer

Fiocchi

Magtech

124gr:

Blazer

Speer Lawman

Federal American Eagle

Sig Sauer

Winchester

PMC

Remington UMC

147gr:

Most ammo will run, but you will see less performance due to a lack of velocity

Ammo to stay away from:

Blazer 115

Winchester White Box 115

Armscor 115

PMC 115

All reloads or reman ammo

i use and have used many of those you posted and haven't had any kind of issues with any ported and comp'd 9's or other cartridges with same set ups. 147's are the only weights along with anything labeled sub i haven't tried/used.
