ding dong ditch claims life

many police services and others have specifically warned about this prank for quite some time now.

here are just a tiny few examples

I get that but why is that? And it’s more rhetorical than anything. What the heck has happened to us? When did people become so afraid. When did people think their life is in danger because their doorbell rang? There shouldn’t have to be warning for this kind of thing

The problem is that kids/teens are not simply "ringing a doorbell and running", they are pounding on the doors. In some twists on this, they are literally kicking the doors. You also had those thugs that dressed as LEOs and shot into a home after banging on the door. With all the craziness and violence going on right now, it is no surprise that people are scared enough to think the worst is happening, and acting accordingly.

I was just talking to my wife and we thought of that door kick thing

Full stop though if someone blasts because their doorbell gets rung that’s bad and inexcusable and I think most agree on that.

Going to track this story as it shakes out.

Agreed
Kicking down a door and ringing a doorbell are 2 different things.
Also, blasting at someone at your door when you don’t know who they are or what they intend to do is not correct either.

I'm not saying it is okay so stay with me.
Some of these are not just doorbell ringing. Many are very close to home invasion tactics. Some of these kids are beating and practically kicking in the door, so I can understand how some folks over react.

A quick primer from a texas law firm, note the homeowner/occupant must believe they are under imminent threat -.."
However, the person must have also had reason to believe that:

  • the victim was unlawfully breaking and entering, or.." so each state will be different of course. Where this is difficult is that if someone "believes" an attacker is breaking into their residence part.
not saying any of it is right/ethical etc but, people live in different areas and some may interpret things that others would not.
Each state has its own definitions of course.

The boy was running away and THEN he was shot. He had to have been shot in the back, right ? How many "Home Invasion" are committed by the invasion-ers that are running away ?

I'm sure i'm gonna get flamed for that. Did he think the kid was gonna run across his lawn and then prank-call him.

Yes. the kid shouldn't have been pranking. Yes, the homeowner shouldn't have shot a fleeing kid. And, yes, I get all of that.

But these are the stories that fuel the anti-gun idiots to make life more difficult for us, right or wrong.

I know that this'll go over like a fart in church here, but there's no way to spin this without it still being ugly. I don't see this kind of stuff going away. In fact, I'm afraid some 'people' now are googling for similar stories to exploit.
