Discussion: Modern Take on the Self-Defense 1911 Pistol

Well as a old disabled LEO I can't afford a new or even used firearm. The meds that they told my take cost more than a new or used firearm and I told the Doc I can't even pay attention let alone a script. So I will just be very happy with my old beat up officer and commander which hits right where it's supposed to for over 70 yrs. Don't need pretty to get the job done. Yes I would love to have a nice shiny 1911 but then I would have to figure it out and I know I don't have that much time left so I will just keep sipping go whisky and tipping my hat to pretty girls.

Well, I just might consider a 1911. A Sig Damascus, though a bit steep in price.

Yessir, nothing wrong with that, my old Commander stands ready to fill in on a moment's notice

I started carrying a 1911 in the 50s prior to that I carried 45 lc revolver which I still have. My favorite wheel gun is still the 41mag. I have 2 pistols that are 9mm but they rest in a box that says "trading material" in hopes of finding another 45 or 41. I still believe that you should find what you're comfortable with and not the ones you read about and shoot what you use and use what you shoot. But that's just a really old survivor saying that.

My EDC for a lot of years was the Sig Sauer C3 1911 .... Bought it in 2008, had every intention of buying a Kimber that day. Saw the Sig and it was Love at first sight.
It's 8 ounces lighter than my Wilson Combat CQB Compact pictured with it. It's under 30 ounces unloaded.
Carried in leather OWB with two extra mags also in leather
Only changes were, new Sig branded flat bottom grips and the magwell.

42 oz. And almost $950? Not unless I win the lottery.

Of course this comes from someone who isn't a 1911 fan and is a Glock fan.

I mean I see that and realize that I would be able to buy two G48 (MOS) pistols for the same amount of money and still come in with a lighter total approximate weight. I have never felt that my Glocks weren't duty ready either.

Still, at the end of the day. It is your choice so enjoy.
