Dress Code

.... All I am saying is tighten up. It is for your own good, from a traffic stop to restaurants to Hospitals. You look like an old hippie, you will be treated like one. Camouflage is a basic military staple. Use it to your advantage. What advantage does a long and scraggly beard and a T shirt offer you? And that is a serious question, because I don't know. I understand and capitalize on playing the "Haves" game. Give me a few good reasons to look homeless.
EXACTLY. Its one thing to wear "lounge sweats" around the house but when you leave...IDK???

Do you reaaly want to look like a Walmart person?

Pieter, as usual, you are on point. Dressing up is such a simple thing. I simply don't understand why Men don't do it. The benefits SO outweigh the negatives. Look I am not saying wear a suit. I am saying wear a shirt with a collar and hopefully some upscale pants. Who are you trying to impress with a scraggly beard and a T Shirt and dirty jeans? And Why? Please explain to me how this gives you the tactical edge, because if you can I am all in.

In th burbs I dress like this. Nice shorts, pants and shirts,
Going to the lease out in the country, it’s Walmart and Dickies brand as they usually get snagged, very dirty or such, not wearing nice clothes there. It’s 2.5 hrs away, so I look like a bum in a nice truck those days. 🙂

I stopped wearing ties and watches as soon as I retired. Chucked the day planner too. But during the Holidays or an occasional symphony/opera, Armani and Rolex are de rigueur. The wife and I enjoy getting dressed up then. People treat you differently according to how you look. Fact. But I do enjoy the canvas and Filson when hoisting an over under in the field. Other than that, blending in is a good thing these days.

Are you comfortable? There's the answer! I don't dress for them, I'm just doing me.

Don't like it? Look away!

In the shop I see guys that just came from work, and I can respect that no matter how filthy their clothes are, because they "earned" that dirt but I also see the guys competing for the homeless look award with unkempt beards yellow toenails in sandals and the same stain on the same t shirt as last time. Then I see the retired guys with 7 figure 401Ks who have give up on how they look.... AND then there are the hommies and homettes of all colours that come in wearing pajamas and bedroom slippers....

That picture of the guy above wearing tissue boxes for slippers was Howard Hughes (actually an actor playing him). Is that really the look you want?

Of all the above the working guys get my respect. Sure I want the $$$ of the 401K guys but not their way of life

Im on my third retirement but I havent given in to lazy at least not with clothes. Yep Ill rock a Wranglers cargo pants or maybe a pair of Dickies but thats because the owner said no to slacks and a sport coat. Even so my pants and shirts are clean, pressed and sometimes starched. My hair is grey but its cut and combed. I tried a beard but passed and stuck with the mustache as a left over from my Doc Holliday period.

Doc Holiday Period. Love it. Why are we all not in our Doc Holiday Period. Still looking for reasons to look like a slob. Where is the tactical advantage?

When I was young my dad worked a blue collar job while he was going to college (GI Bill). He wore jeans and a white (there were no colours back then) button done shirt. I can still remember my mom pressing and starching his jeans and shirt and his shoes were always polished, maybe not spit shined but polished

He also wore a fedora hat every day. He even cut the grass wearing a fedora

When he got his degree and a better job his dress only got better because he was going to the office. There was no such thing as casual Friday WTF is that?

OH yes I still have what I call my "gamblers vests" in red, green, blue, and black. They were "just" long enough to conceal a cross draw SAA and covered a shoulder holster too

I suspect in Doc's day you could tell who worked the cattle and who worked the playing cards; but I also like to think the cowboys cleaned up before leaving the ranch to go into town

I went to a family Thanksgiving party and had to be told NOT to wear a tie. I was still in a dress shirt and slacks....and a fancy vest to cover my enraged SAA

Wearing a T shirt is not being a bum. Neither is wearing any form of pant.
Jogging /sweat /lounge wear pants are not a proper pant to be clear.
A slob is dirty clothes, lounge wear or crocs as a normal daily attire.
Those stay indoors. Not out and about doing daily errands or work.

We are all Ambassadors for the Second Amendment. Dress like it. Still waiting for anyone to come up with a tactical reason to have an unkept beard and a T shirt. Is it a signal to every woman you meet you are not interested? And to flip the coin, is is a signal for Homosexual sex? Look I am just trying to get a handle on it. If it is a signal to the same sex guys I am fine with that...I live in a college town and that is "normal" around here in terms of numbers. Educate me.

Exactly, we are the under the radar guys that save the day. Anything you do that is out of the ordinary takes away your tactical advantage. Don't sport a beard that attracts attention. Clean up! Don't be a dummy.

Most days I do a pretty good impression of a person who lives under a bridge. Its the same attire for the woodshop or running a chainsaw. Stand around outside a WalMart and somebody might hand you a dollar. Or go into MacDonalds and they give you free coffee.

Growing up in Hawaii, shorts, tshirts AND flip flops are acceptable. Torn clothing or clothes not washed for 30 days not so much. Ppl wear different clothing depending on what part of the country they live in, alot based in climate.
My oldest son was stationed in HI for a time. I believe he has some formal flip flops and board shorts. Not too much change for him, having grown up in FL.
