Echelon Icarus magwell flare fix

If you have tricked out your echelon and utilize the Icarus frame, you may have noticed that the Icarus magwell flare doesn’t allow for most magazine extensions. I was nervous to try and modify the flare because of the price. However, if you slowly remove some material from the magwell attachment from Icarus, it will accept all magazine extensions. Phew.

I used a Dremel at moderate speed initially starting with a metal removal bit (course carbide then smoothe diamond). I shaved down little by little checking fit every couple passes. Once I got the bulk cut down, I then transitioned to an 80 grit sand paper bit. Ground down to even out the metal. After that, increase the grit until smooth then polish. Check figment regularly so you take off just enough material. Make sure the magazine fits secure without having to force in to lock and also make sure it releases smoothly. I ran into an empty magazine hanging up slightly so I had to remove just a tad more.

Just wanted to share that with everyone.

I just ordered from them. I bought the gray frame for the 5" x-ten. Don't have any extended mags, but it does come with 2 base plates of the same color as the frame ordered.

What's the brand of the extension or is it the factory brand

The factory extensions are the only ones that fit well with the Icarus echelon frame. The X-ten I have no idea how the Icarus will perform.

I have NDZ mag extensions and Taran tactical. They fit perfect after the slight modification.
