The Firearms world is awash with firmly held opinions about which one is best. I’m a firm believer that there is no one truly best way, but rather the best way for you. With that being said, I think it’s time to look at the pros and cons of EDC pistol carry.

What does this mean? >> 6:00 to 9:00 position, which refers to your holster being on or just in front of your hip

and there is this >>Our next care position is the appendix, while showing a picture exactly in line with a belly button... also Lots of misspelling. Did AI write this?

its exact position can vary among individuals, but it is typically found near the right hip bone.

Hi,

Let's just say that's not the best written article I've ever read. I think we all know that 12 o'clock is in front, at the belly button. Six o'clock is the middle of the back. Hence, "I've got your six." For the right handed, an OWB would probably be at 3 o'clock, on the right hip. For lefties, a 9 o'clock OWB is normal, on the left hip. Personally, my AIWB is at 1 or 2 o'clock, depending on the pants fit and belt loop position.

I've also seen some OWB, and IWB for that matter, being carried about 4 o'clock or 4:30, for those who don't like the firearm right on their hip, 7 or 8 o'clock for lefties. I find that hard to access in a timely manner if concealed.

Ankle carry was not mentioned. I've been thinking about an ankle holster for my Derringer. Any gear suggestions? Being right handed, should I carry on the outside of my right foot, or on the inside of my left foot?

Please forgive my profound glimpse into the obvious. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

Inside of Left ( off side ) .

Better access while kneel . Ambidterous access . Better protected , better concealled .

Minority ( maybe 10% ) preference for Inside of right ( on side ) , facing " backwards " i e. butt foreward .

Outside of right , to be considered onky if you have overwhelming reason , such as spending most of your day on a horse or motorcycle .

Cross draw is my preferred especially when driving.

For a long time , l was pretty close to ambidexterous with one hand shooting . So when carrying two [ yeah l know , seperate debate in itself , but for another thread ] , l would use one right hand holster , and one left .

And then a hand injury , and tendon surgery . Back to " 100 % per Physical Therapist standards " , but notacibly less strength & dexterity than my personal baseline . Seperate duscussion about the effect on two hand shooting , but left draw is no longer Plan A .

So crossdraw .

But alas , my concept of crossdraw isn't current mainstream idea of CD . I want seriously canted , but most these days are vertical , or just barely canted .

Yes I agree DM Bullard has a great cant. I like a close to horizontal for my hunting rig I think they call it a cattleman's rig.

Lot of cops in the 60s carried up to 6-inch in cross draw holsters. As a Detective, I carried a Det Special in one. Easier to draw while wearing a sport coat, at least for me. Left hand pulls the coat away, right hand does the drawing. 3 o:clock you have to sashay a bit, otherwise you end up with a handful of coat…
