EDC Options (part 1 of 2)

I don't think I would be much help because I like revolvers,my duty carry was a S&W model 19 and my off duty was a 41 mag. In today's world I carry a 1911 officer all iron and it'sold like me and easy to conceal. Both the 41 and 45 short barreled weapons talk loud and they please because they are accurate. Like I said not much help 🫣

Some people can conceal stuff that would be surprising. I never thought I’d be convinced I’d carry a Glock G23.5 (compact .40 S&W) or a S&W M&P M2.0 in 10MM with a bulky light. To me it shows that you’re doing what makes you comfortable.

I promise, no sissy played pistols. I’ve seen a fair number of movies but don’t recall the scene above. Best.

The scene is from the movie US Marshals.

As a little bit of background Robert Downey Jr was just added to Tommy Lee Jones's team and Tommy Lee Jones wasn't happy about it.

Every time I see this scene I say the same thing, I don't care who told me that you(RDJr's character) were going to be on my team, if you whip out your weapon (I don't care what kind of weapon it is) and start waving it around when all I asked you is if you have one, you are NOT going to be on my team and I don't care who said different.

I appreciate all the thoughts and opinions here. My daughter in law’s father carries a revolver. And a friend of mine has a S&W. Right now I’m on the capacity gravy train. There’s a part of me that thinks the louder the gun the more intimidating it might be to a would be attacker. I know if I heard a Desert Eagle crack off I’d likely head for the hills. Thank you for checking in.

To me comfort is an important consideration. If it’s uncomfortable you won’t carry it and then find yourself exposed. That said, training and practice are equally important. What good is a pistol you can’t shoot? Thank you for your perspective.

I’ve seen that movie but my recollection just isn’t there. Geez I’m getting old.

I am curious what you mean by loud being intimidating... this seems to imply firing warning shots, or missing the first time. I do agree with enjoying more capacity... any of the newer style mid sized and compacts can get you at least 15 +1 and up. all the way up to

I certainly hope that in the event of an emergency situation I would be able to neutralize the threat. And if the report of the gun distracts the assailant, all the better. I’m definitely training to be the best protector I can be. Regards.

There is a thing called Auditory Exclusion that happens when somebody is shooting at you.

Your brain shuts off the noise so you can concentrate on more important things.

That said, the legal repercussions of firing a warning shot are pretty much the same as if you shot right at them.

It's not something smart people do

IDK I carried a gun as part of my job (Security) for 15 years. Nobody asked me if I thought it was comfortable, for that matter nobody even asked me if I liked that particular gun (It was an M&P40 and I really didn't have an opinion one way or the other).

They just issued it to me and told me to carry it. Along with the duty belt and body armor and all the other crap they had me carrying. Nobody seemed to care if I thought it was comfortable.

Same with my kevlar and flak jackets and lbe and rucksack and M16 and gas mask and MOPP Suit all over the crap the Army made me carry.

After while you get used to it and carrying a Glock 19 and two reloads just really doesn't seem like all that much of a load

The legalities of personal protection is something I need to familiarize myself with if I’m going to carry. I’ll do some research or find some nearby classes to attend. I’ll make myself smarter. The human response to a loud noise is also something to understand. I’m sort of in my infancy with respect to much of this so your perspective is invaluable.

Capacity is second. shot placement is what counts, if you can’t hit your target with 6 rounds or less, you need to practice and train more, shot placement means more then capacity does…..
I agree 100 percent with you. Some of the incidents showed from body cams of officers you see a lot of brass laying around. We didn't have the luxury of 20 rounds to send. No backup,no vest 6 rounds and reload.

You make perfect sense. If I can’t land the first couple shots capacity is a moot point as I’ve likely put my family and myself in a position where my lack of preparation might be disastrous. I go to the range almost every week but admittedly I do need to engage in repetition with my carry gun until drawing and acquiring my target is second nature, muscle memory.

I’ve never heard of Llama. I’ll have to do some research. Thank you.
You. Do Not Want A Llama

Llama has a really spotty reputation and it seems there's no middle ground people either love them or despise them. They are reputedly made of inferior steel and are prone to mechanical failure.

IME they don't work with standard 1991 magazines. The last time I looked for a Llama magazine the importer wanted 95 bucks for it.

If I was wealthy and collected, I'd be interested in acquiring unique pistols. When I started feeling older and had grandchildren around I decided to get a pistol to protect them and me. Well, I enjoyed the first one so much I got a second. My wife asked how many pistols am I was going to buy and I threw out the number 3. Through a little tense negotiation I've managed to acquire 5. I find pistols like little works of art steeped in technology. Each one different from the next. So now I'm thinking I'd like to refine what I have. We shall see how it all pans out.

It's interesting that the llamas in the photo all seem to have different coats. I don't know if they share the same lineage as whitetail deer but deer in my next of the woods seem to be more uniform in coat/color.

Again, thank for contributing.

I'm trying to like the new Sig P6 Xcarry Legion I just bot for EDC. After 200 rounds it is finally firing without stovepiping every other round. Still not locking back after last round with certain ammo (PMC, Blazer). I really want to like it and depend on it for EDC but... Having said that, I have not had one failure with either my Echelon or HellcatPro from day 1. I'm part asian so smaller at 165#. Echelon OWB and HCP IWB. I have confidence in these for EDC and for your size, I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to stuff the Echelon comfortably. For the money, it would be my no frills choice. Though I did shoot my friends wife's S&W Performance Center M&P380 EZ Shield the other day and it was pretty sweet.
