Fail to Fire - Spfld 911 .380

Bought a 911 .380. Gun shows little use. I'm doing some break-in firing with mixed .380 rounds, a little old, but nothing pre-Vietnam era. Getting 1 or 2 fail to fire (FTF) out of every 50 rounds. The FTF rounds show slightly shallow primer strikes (see photos of good hits, and the one FTF hit).

Is this common with the 911? When I was working in LE, Glocks would get occasional FTF if solvent or oil migrated to the firing pin hole, but not 2% FTF (1 out of 50), like I'm getting.

How is the ammunition stored? Vietnam era is 50 plus years ago now, that's a long time now, even though i remember it well, and ammunition can be subject to climate issues.

Might suggest trying some fresh stuff then see how it goes.
 
What I meant was the ammo was post-Vietnam, i.e. 25-50 yrs old. I don't know how stored, I just picked it from a guy. I'm using this cheap stuff to break in the gun before moving to the expensive hollow points for a real test of suitability for carry.

But yes, I'll try out some modern quality ammo, and see what happens. I don't think it's the ammo's fault, because the ftf rounds show light primer hits, which is usually a firearm issue, not an ammo issue.

This. Thorough cleaning. If you are still getting light strike, then a hammer spring. One other possible issue may be hard primers (some ammo, esp off brand) may have tougher than usual primers. Is the ftf stuff all one brand or ?

I was following the video, are you sure it's wrong for the 911? Although the 911's extractor is different, the firing pin looks like it's held in the same way. I checked the 911 parts diagram and my pistol, and it looks similar to the Colt Govt; push in the firing pin, slide the rear plate down, and the pin + spring should come out. Am I wrong?

Mostly FTF issues, @mikep I got rid of the one I had, the ambi safety dug into my hand and got tired of it jamming
