Finally bagged my buck on the last day of the season.

After two weeks of scouring the mountains around here, I saw about 11 doe, and zero bucks. Finally, on the 24th of this month, the last day of the season, I saw what I thought was a big doe down a treed ravine, until its head turned and grew a nice 4X4 rack! He was almost out of range to get a good shot with iron sights, especially since he was on a fast walk. But his side was to me, which was good. I followed his gate with my Belgium Browning BLR .243, pulled the trigger and hoped for the best. He dropped like brick...got him just behind the shoulder but about 4" too high. Success! Last time I went deer hunting was in 1986. The worst part was getting him up the hill and into the rig. My hunting buddy couldn't help due to his bad knee, and I felt like about 90 years old instead of 72 after going up and down that hill. Luckily, a young man came along and saved the day helping us.

I wish ours did. It's been too warm, and I didn't hit wet snow until around 8K feet elevation. Plus, the bucks get really stupid during the rut which starts just as our season ends. Mine was though...had the huge swollen neck.

I got a nice 26" 4X3 muley when I was in Challis back-in-the-day.

Got him mounted at Life-Like Taxidermy in Carmen.
