FN Ends the SCAR Line, Kinda

FN has confirmed that the legacy vaunted SCAR line of modular rifles, as we know them, is discontinued.

Designed for a circa 2004 USSOCOM tender, the SOF Combat Assault Rifle became a real thing in its select-fire 7.62 NATO (SCAR Heavy and the Mk 20 sniper variant) and 5.56 NATO (SCAR Light) variants within just a few years.

Offered to the commercial market starting in 2008 with the semi-auto SCAR 16S (5.56) and SCAR 17S (7.62), the rifle became a much sought-after commodity, with guns often reselling in online auctions for well over the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

All that now seems destined to the dustbin of history, to be put on the same shelf as the FN FAL, as the company this week quietly shifted several SCAR S variants to the “discontinued products” section of its website.

Something new is coming from FN, so there won’t be a gap in their line.

But I like my SCAR 17. A lot.

It’s Tuesday and I haven’t shot it since Saturday night (night shoot class) so I’m getting the itch. I’ll be at the range today doing some work, but I might take a break to scratch the .308 itch.

Aside from the near HK level of expense, both initial, and for accessories, I wanted Heavy Model, until I went shopping for one......

But.......

I have an FNX-45, and one of thier Collector Series M-16A4s.

It'll be one of the MANY guns I've missed in my life, but I won't miss not having one.

I have the rare competitor to the Scar competition, that lost out to FN:
Colt LE901
Never did care for the FN scar after shooting one.
Put a diff stock on it over the collapseable

Man, that's down right SEXY
Thanks. Its one of my favorite .308’s.
I have the 5.56 conversion kit for it thats unopened(rare) and a complete colt M4 that the upper can slap on top of the LE901 to make it 5.56.

Here is a write up on the LE901 from a gun writer.
Its a great Colt!
It had a VLTOR stock on it, but thats now on my colt M4

I was tempted back when they were available, but I was living on a patrol officers pay, so no dice lol.

I have a magazine article somewhere on your rifle, and it's convertability, man, that seems like a lifetime ago
