good day at the range

ok, took the Sig STX, and 2 boxes of reloads.

not too happy with the results.. the rear sights were off, so i had to compensate somewhat pointing the gun to the right.

then, the mags kept ejecting, and i feel i know why..

months ago, maybe over a year actually, on ALL my 1911's, i removed the original mag release springs, for "softer ones, since it can be difficult for me to press the mag release button.

nearly every time i shot a round, the dang mags would eject.

i cannot have that.

so, i called it a day, took the gun home.

replaced the mag button spring with its original, and man, its hard to push.

then i moved the rear sight to the right a few clicks...no, the tool i did have in my bag, did not have a tiny flat blade, now, i threw a small screw driver in the bag.

i do not recall the Sig being an issue in the past

this was my Dan Wesson Heritage.......no issues...

and today's Sig STX....see the differences..??

this after i had to point more to the right, rather than using the sights.

so tomorrow, i will take the Sig and my Beretta to the club and try out my adjustments

then, the gun will get cleaned......no cleaning today.

Hi,

That seems like it was a pretty good workout, getting things dialed in. Nice going.

ok, took the Sig STX, and 2 boxes of reloads.

Your reloads work! :) ;)

replaced the mag button spring with its original, and man, its hard to push.

Forgive the obvious question. Do you think anyone makes a spring that splits the difference?

so tomorrow, i will take the Sig and my Beretta to the club and try out my adjustments

Crack on! I'm sure you'll have a banging good time. :D

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

yes, i got a package of Wolff 1911 mag release springs at Brownells.

they go from 1 to 5..??? in spring rates??

i have to check, but "say" that 5 is the strongest rate, i bought #3's....which are half rate...??

these springs work incredibly well....

but no other 1911, i have now, or in the past......no matter the load charge on my reloads, max or just under......do the other 1911's magazine pop out, except for this Sig STX..maybe the Sig requires a heavier mag release spring, i'll certainly find out tomorrow.

Good shooting Old-Me.

ok, i went to the club earlier, but only took the Sig STX, so that i could dial in the sights....actually, it was the first time doing so. i had to dial in the elevation and the windage

it took some time, and i only shot maybe 2 rounds at a time, and went thru a few targets.

this from yesterday, before the adjustments

this from this morning and i don't believe i had more that 20 round left

now too, since i only shot 1 or 2 rounds at a time, the magazine never self ejected, with the OEM Sig mag button spring.

another day i will know for sure.

Looks like target #2 had less rounds but tighter grouping, very good.

Yes! Mucho better accuracy. Good work. Are you going to leave the factory mag release spring? Are you getting used to it?

Thank you for your indulgence,

well, frankly since only having one box of ammo, and shooting only "up to 3 rounds" for each target i wasted, was not enough to "jar" the magazines loose.

i'll say this, the OEM mag release spring IS MUCH heavier than the Ed Brown "softer spring" i took out.

and i don't understand that...

all my other 1911's when i replaced their mag release springs NEVER self ejected those magazines....it was just the Sig's.

i'll have to come back to this thread at a later time in the weeks ahead when i take the Sig back out again.

so yes, it'll stay in the Sig, if to only stop the mags from self ejecting..

but it is a PITA to press...good thing i am not a speed shooter.

well, took my Colt 1911, 2 days this week, once to the range, and just yesterday to the club.

thursday, the front fiber optic sight, decided to go AWOL

i found it, at my foot, but it was not reusable of course.

got the gun home, installed a new one, BUT...what i had not really taken notice of was that the Colt's sight holder is larger than the .060 rods i have.

so anyway, installed the "smaller diameter" rod, melted it to fit, and at the club yesterday, it goes out to lunch, and never came back,

dammit...dammit...dammit...

online i go to MidwayUSA, and ordered up .078 diameter rods...2 packages worth since shipping charges (to me) are high for just 1 package...

so, Colt 1911 is clean and lubed, and just have to wait till about the 9th for the rods.

i also had to readjust the rear sight, good thing i spent money on the Lyman sight pusher...only used it 3 times since i got it...but it works.

when i get the new rods, the Colt goes back to check on the sight adjustment.
