Dropped her off for a transplant. My 289 had developed a three pack a day smoking habit.

The cylinder walls were smooth as glass, no cross hatching. When it got pulled I saw that the valves were pretty bad and the timing chain had so much play in it...

Anyway. Now it has a sporty new (relatively speaking) 302. The only things left to do are dual exhaust and a wee bit of window tinting. Next year.

Sweet! Very nice ride.

Sweet !

If the 289 is the original engine I would hang onto it.

Fairlanes are under-appreciated. I actually had my eye out for the right '66 Fairlane GT and stumbled across my Shelby and got distracted. By the time I sarted to think about finding the right Fairlane again, people had discovered them and prices had gone up.

They're actually a really good solid driver car (not calling it a driver' S car like a sports car necessarily, but can be made one if you so desire)you want it to be that's easy to work on and drive. People will start wanting that more and more.

The new cars are mobile computer networks. I think the Fairlane will outlast them.

I had a 1966 GTA fairlane given to me . The body was cherry with no rust anywhere on the car. It didn't have an engine or transmission but I had a 428 CJ and a big top loader 4 speed to put in it. Plus the front seats weren't bolted down. My dad wouldn't let me take it. Said he wasn't having a non drivable car sitting around in the way. 🤬🤬

I told him as soon as I got the 428 rebuilt I was putting it in the GTA but he wouldn't budge. No , he wasn't against fords before someone comes up with that. LOL

428 ? They'll fit.

I've got a 428 and a Large Spline TopLoader 4-speed.

But I'd rather have a 427.

I don't how tight it'll be in a Fairlane, but in a Mustang it's almost impossibly tight. It's an all-day job to check sparkplugs. When they were new, in the shop the flat-rate was for 8.0 hrs.

Depends on what he wants it for and if stock configuration for collector's value is a consideration.
He's got the original engine, and if it's a daily driver a 302 will be fun. And simple.

While he's saving for the 428.
