Haga Defense took a 180-degree (or rather 90-degree) different approach; in their new Saraid Top Notch AR-15 charging handle, they deleted the side handles altogether, replacing them with a single vertical handle. According to the company, this design choice is made because the standard side protrusions cause gear snags, interfere with forward assists, or complicate manipulations near optics and slings.

Here is the list of key advantages that Haga Defense claims the Saraid Top Notch vertical charging handle design has:
  • Reduced Gear Interference — Less snags on plate carriers, slings, or gear pouches. Smooth, unobstructed operation in any high-stress environment.
  • Monolithic, Latchless Design — Crafted from a single piece of premium billet for maximum strength and minimal failure points.
  • Unobstructed Field of View — Keeps the charging handle perfectly inline with the rifle's centerline, without obstructing your sight picture or peripheral vision.
  • Receiver-Friendly Retention — Internal spring-ball system securely holds the handle without any external pressure or marring on your upper receiver — unlike traditional designs.
  • Reduced Stock Interference — Undercut geometry minimizes contact with common sling retention bands on stocks, improving control without compromising sling management.
  • Superior Grip — Aggressive texturing delivers positive control, even with gloves or wet conditions.
  • Sleek, Modern Aesthetics — Clean lines and premium finish make it look as good as it performs.
