Help identifying my new pistol

Hi all,
Just got a new (to me) 1911 today and am trying to figure out exactly what it is. Any help would be appreciated. If there is a serial number look up site please share. On the case the sticker says upc code PW9108LP. The next line says 45 GI MILSPEC. Any guidance and assistance is very much appreciated.

Guessing it's a Springfield MILSPEC 45. Only thing I can see different is the sights. Someone with more knowledge than me will help. Welcome to the forum from South Texas.

It's one of the old/long-discontinued "USGI " models thats been heavily "BUBBA-IZED".

AS you can see it's no where near it's original configuration. It's a shame since that's the only model that SA made in the original WW2 USGI configuration.

It's not a MILSPEC due to the original ejection port size & shape on the slide.

So it seems I’ve got a gun that was ok and someone made crappier? Or is that an over simplification? I paid $600. I know, just like anything else, that if you enjoy it it doesn’t matter what it’s “worth” but did I overpay?
Yes, & No. It would have cost you more if it was in its original shape because they're highly thought of, but it's now a straight shooter with all the mods.

For $600 its a decent used shooter.

Welcome to the forum! Thanks for joining us. Bud's Gunshop has more information on the original...

Well, you might've overpaid a little. I gave $650 for my SA Garrison 1911, used. Yours has a few "upgrades", grip safety, sights, skeletonized trigger, skeletonized hammer, probably other stuff. I agree with Belt Fed, if it works just shoot the beans out of it and enjoy.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Right now SDS/Tisas & Inland Manufacturing make the 1911-A1 in the original "WW2" Remington-Rand mil-spec configuration.

If SA brought that back they'd sell everyone of them (hint hint) for those of us that would want a period-correct WW2 era 1911-A1.

My 1911 in Vietnam was made by Rem-Rand had the very crappy sights, rattled like a bag of marbles but never failed to go bang.

1911 Mil-Spec .45 ACP Handgun - PB9108L - Springfield Armory

The Springfield Armory PBD9108L and similar, often older, marked PB9108LP/PW9108LP models are largely the same 1911 Mil-Spec .45 ACP handgun, featuring a forged frame/slide, 5-inch match barrel, and parkerized finish. The primary differences are usually related to product series, such as the PBD9108L belonging to the budget-driven "Defend Your Legacy Series".

Key Details of Both Models:
  • Series: The PBD9108L is part of the Defend Your Legacy Series (often designated "Defenders Series") aimed at new shooters and value-driven customers.
  • Design: Both are classic 1911 Mil-Spec models with parkerized finishes.
  • Features: They share 5-inch stainless steel match-grade barrels, fixed combat 3-dot sights, and, in many cases, standard wood grips with the Springfield logo.
  • Construction: Both feature forged carbon steel frames and slides for durability.
The "PBD" vs "PW/PB" likely denotes a packaging or logistical variant related to the "Defenders Series" price-point program, but the firearm specifications remain consistent as standard parkerized Mil-Specs.

Well, if you blow up the first pic he shared it has Springfield Armory stamped on the slide……and on the other side of slide it says Model 1911 A-1 is how the older mil specs were done. So originally it was a stock mil spec 1911, probably forged in Brazil like they were back years ago
