How did COVID change you?

I keep hearing since Covid" and "COVID changed me/us" and "It different after COVID". I dont get it. Yep Im older and dont hang out in the city late at night anymore; but I stopped that well before COVID; but I really dont think COVID changed me. OK I dont know what to do with the gauze that I bought to make masks because I refused to wear a medical mask. I did almost get into a physical encounter with a guy who followed me around a store yelling that I needed a mask but that just gives me another story about stupid people. Im now more suspicious about people who continue to wear masks and gloves but maybe I always was and those folks deserve suspicion

the only possible way it changed me was that, i had just started the shoting sport/hobby in January/February of 2020..

as such i quickly enjoyed my new sport at my age...i used to buy up case of 9mm @ or about $125.00 PER case, and about $149.00 PER case of 45 ACP...

i was having a BLAST, learning how to zero in my focus, and hitting the targets..

as far as i know, this must have been my 1st gun, the G-17, as the date would show as 2020....

as a former mechanic (and long(er) time trucker, i made a repair to my G-17, rather than send it back...

something just did not "feel right" with the trigger, so when i field stripped it, i could plainly see how the trigger bar was rubbing on the frame....which the frame was "pushed into" the trigger bar..??? so i removed the fire control unit...my first time ever, and i lightly dremeled the frame to "stop the rubbing"

i went on to greatly improve my shooting, to a point like last years target with my G-17...

i then at the same time as the G-17, i bought my first CZ 75 B, then starting buying up as many 1911's as i could, and a few revolvers, cuz so many people were buying and drying out the stocks of 9mm's AND THE ammo...!!

as a result, i only took 1 box of ammo to the ranges, as now a case of 9mm was reaching the $400 point...!!

and forget about the 45 ACP at nearly $700 per case...!!

i tried buying reloaded ammo, but the frickin smoke was horrendous.....

so i then got into reloading, self taught in many ways and with much advice from other reloaders, here and elsewhere, but NO ONE watching me which i wish there was.....


i would get to the LGS at about 8 AM...they opened at 10, and i stood IN line at the front door for 2 hours.....late comers would have to find parking 2 blocks away, and start standing in the line....that far away, in the broiling sun and humidity....

what did i change during Covid..??

be careful how much ammo i took, still to this day...i only take 2 boxes...self reliance, buy in bulk when i can afford to do so at much higher prices, and to NOT trade, or give away anything that i have.
 
COVID wrecked my voice box. I work in manufacturing and we were forced to wear masks. Breathing in my own C02 did a number on my throat and probably my lungs. We also had a massive uptick in orders which caused management to extend our shifts by two hours and create a weekend shift. That was because we were working 58 and 60 hour weeks. They said it would knock down the overtime. It didn’t. Not for months. Resulted in lots of sickness and injuries.
It hasn’t changed much since, except that now orders have been really slow since the new year so 40 hour weeks are starting to feel more normal.
Other than that, I’m a homebody so I didn’t miss malls being closed or anything. And I didn’t freak out about toilet paper 😎

Well sad to say it is still around. I understand one can get it again after several weeks/months? have passed. Thankfully, I got a Moderna vaccine (one the government is holding up for evaluation right now, even though it works with a VACCINE = for the NON-DOCTOR Robert K. Jr.). I only spent four nights in the hospital, just before 2022 Thanksgiving. Have since taken booster VACCINES and it has not re-occurred. I understand the gov. is pushing Pfizer over Moderna which makes me wonder why? (Follow the $$$ ...) So I guess I am one of the lucky ones in that respect. For those who think that Covid was a hoax or in anyway false... local hospital was keeping bodies in the cold parking garage because the morgue could not hold them all.
As far as masks are concerned, It's bad enough when someone normally sneezes near you, so if some people want to wear them...WHY NOT? One LGS would not allow people into their shop if they were wearing one. Were they paranoid of getting Covid? When I asked the reason, they just looked down on me. Guess they didn't believe in it. Some people are just ignorant! They almost lost out on my purchase of a $500 IWI Masada.

but also..what i was getting at was, the enjoyment or my new sport at my age, the abundance of low(er) priced guns, ammo.

the having to stand in long painful lines..for anything really, that we all needed, daily, weekly or monthly

self reliance, in finding ways to get things done, and not sending back to the factories, where they would have had many employees out of work, making repair/return times longer.

Covid made me and the wife and all our kids be sure to have plenty on hand (a survival skill??) rather than to rely on factories producing continually to meet demands.

still to this day.....i hear constantly, about "chain supply problems".....

well fix the damned broken chain....!!!!!!!!
 
I very much do understand the losses that some felt. Im still not sure how I feel about the vaccines, although I did get one (never bothered to as which one). I had a buddy who refused a vaccine and now complines that he was forced to lay on a mat on the ER waiting room floor for 17 hours, (its hard but I have resisted saying "told you so" when he brings it up)

Working in a gun shop I watched OTHER shops charge $100 a BOX for 9mm FMJ. We didnt always have it but never for more that a couple days. We did place a limit of ONE box per type per person and encouraged folks to bring their buddies, wives, and girlfriend (one guy said, "This is my Wife and this is my Girlfriend...each bought 3 different boxes). Some mandate said no more than 10 people in the shop at one time, so we scheduled appointments and had an employee act as a "personal shopper" for the over flow--no extra cost. I did hear a woman was arrested in the early days for violating the "stay at home" ruling; but word is, she talked herself into the arrest by being an ___hole to the cop. I did get a chuckle when I saw the people with two masks and double gloves driving alone in their car. I made masks out of pantyhose grade mesh just to please to the mask commissars (lets call'em what they are not Nazis), and one time I wore a hockey goalie mask as a FU to the powers the be. I saw a Rabbi get screamed at by a stewardess (she didnt deserver the Flight Attendant title) because she could see his beard through his mask. I wrote a letter to the airline CEO about it but never got a reply.

I keep 10,000 rounds of linked 556 on hand, that I used to break into to shoot; but suddenly was afraid to shoot it because Id only have 9,000 rounds. Somehow I didnt mind shooting my 9mm supply and leaving only a 1000 rounds, which is low considering I run SMGs as well as pistols. I told myself 556 was my final protective plan and if it got down to belts, Id need all I had. Hahaha

Things like COVID polarize us and I dont understand it. It sure seems like we used to be able to disagree and still talk and remain CIVIL
 
I look back at COVID like the various SNOMAGEDDONS, Its the Bread, Milk, and Toilet paper crowd who make things soooo much worse. Im definitely not a full on Prepper; but I do try really hard to keep a couple weeks of food on hand. It woulnt be fun eating last years Spaghetti Os for days on end but its better than fighting with the dog over kibble.

I even understand the "I cant afford to stock up" folks that wait to the last minute but then how are they able to hoard at the last minute?
 
Lost some folks I know. I got vaxxed but not boosted. Have not had any issues I could remotely attribute to the vax, but I still wonder about the long term.

Had it a few times, I'm certain, although I never tested.

I changed some of my routines and don't think I will ever go fully back to the way I was pre-CV19.
I used to run errands all the time...... now only on certain days and after carefully making a list. Order delivery of groceries at times now.
 
I had Covid in March of 20 but other than it being like a Super flu for 5 days I bounced out of it quickly. Didn't/haven't gotten it again.

What got me was the Pfizer Covid shot (it was never a vaccine) the next year that messed me up, giving me two types of neuropathy, and worst it really messed up my GI system with a side-effect of sending my blood pressure way up (never had any BP issues before the shot and after Covid but prior to the shot (BTW -never got any boosters).

My Corporate PCP denied my symptoms a lot so I mainly figured things things out, based on my professional background, and finally convinced the PCP that I needed high BP med, & on my own found special pre/pro-biotic to rebuild my gut micro-flora. Both of those have been successful but I'm still dealing with the cumulative effects of my gut being messed up for years, & I'll likely be stuck on BP meds for the duration.

IMO what helped me prior to Covid that I had gotten my pneumonia vaccines (real vaccines) which helped me kick Covid since both a respiratory. Most folks that passed went from pneumonia since Covid had weakened their systems enough to let pneumonia kick in, and was much more lethal.

My advice is for folks to get their pneumonia vaccinations

But the shots also killed folks due to allergic reactions. A friend of mine had her heart stop briefly 2X after getting the Moderna shot in 21.

They changed the traditional definition of a "Vaccine" to accommodate the shots since they're really only therapeutics and don't prevent infection nor transmission.

I have COPD. At the very beginning of Covid my Pulmonologist told me straight up, if you get it, it'll very likely kill you.
I took the shots, I wore the mask and I played by the rules. I never caught it.
Two friends of mine were denyers. They both got it and it killed them both.
 
The whole Covid thing really didn’t change to much for me. I was able to change jobs during the pandemic and not collect unemployment at all. I never took time off for been sick but almost lost my mom due to taking “the stab”. I do remember over half my shift didn’t make it in because they tested positive. Basically here I am now in a different job and moved.
 
The topic of this thread is a slippery slope. Years ago, just before COVID, I was a member of this forum under a different account and username. At the height of COVID, this topic was a very touchy subject. I was in the minority at the time. I questioned how safe the vaccine was. I expressed my views on why I didn't want to get the vaccine and finally refused to get the vaccine. I'm not going to go into all the details, but I was treated like a pariah on this forum because of my views. A lot of those old forum members are still here. I remember the loudest ones. Even some of the Admin of this forum are considered untrustworthy by me because of things that happened back in those days. I left this forum in disgust, and had the Admins wipe out my old account. A few years went by, and curiosity got the best of me. I started looking back into this forum. Not as a member, just as an outsider (in case some of you don't realize this, anyone can read all the posts on this forum without being a member, you just can't post or interact). About a year and a half ago I rejoined this forum under a new account and username. I sure hope things don't go south like they did back in those days in the current forum. And I don't want to even begin to relive the things I had to go through in real life under the scamdemic.
 
Made me trust politicians and journalists even less than I did before; which wasn't very much.

While Covid was / is very real my opinion is that it was used to see just how far they could go in making people do things. Kind of a big experiment taking advantage of the public's ( intentional) lack of facts and knowledge.
 
Already in that retirement mode...wife and I endured the early nasal swab...you know the one where you're in a line bumper to bumper at the local HS where they ask you a bunch of questions then jamb that swab up your nose until you see stars. Oh yeah! Other than that, I absolutely hated those GD disposable masks. Made it through...lucky, I guess.

I mean you NO disrespect. Your decisions are yours as long as they dont involve me. I ask the question because more than one person here and "in real life" has said that COVID changed them. I just wanted to know why/how.

I do remember those angry debates (if thats what you can call it) and I use those as a symbol of the loss of civility. Im not without this as well; but I do strive to do better
