Body cameras have proven that is a lie!YUPBut people still think cops are like Jedi when it comes to firearms.
Outside your onesy Bank of America shootout Anythjng over 4-7 rounds ends up being a mag dump and maybe an ankle hit if any in the perp.

Ah, I didn't know that! Thank you. I always told to put nail polish on the primers to keep water out, but that's definitely very old info indeed! Is save the mail polish for the front sight and front sight only.
Quality self defense ammo has proven techniques with the lacquer they seal primers with.
So I wouldn’t worry about going that far especially with mail polish as that stuff can damage the cartridge
I would research anythjng.Ah, I didn't know that! Thank you. I always told to put nail polish on the primers to keep water out, but that's definitely very old info indeed!
That I did know. And popcorn kernels.I would research anythjng.
We were also told to put rock salt in shotgun shells for trespasses ….that is still deadly force and will still kill or seriously injure someone within a certain range!
Lots of bad wife’s tails that refuse to die
Technically, that's still cycling your carry ammo! You're just not rotating it in the magI rarely cycle ammo. I will purchase new carry ammo then shoot the old around 18mo now, Used to be an annual thing.
To the point you are correct. I will refer to myself as an infrequent rotation participantTechnically, that's still cycling your carry ammo! You're just not rotating it in the mag![]()
I carry a revolver 95% of the year.I think I’m due for a rotation![]()
Do you change it, or fire it and then load fresh ammo? If you change it, what do you do with the old ammo?I carry a revolver 95% of the year.
I change that ammo when the time changes. I used to change mags and ammo the same way - at the time change - when I carried a Glock or 1911.
I change it to “fresh,” as in not ever in the cylinder before.Do you change it, or fire it and then load fresh ammo? If you change it, what do you do with the old ammo?
I did! It's right there in the subject line!!
Just realized this is the second time I have responded to this thread. It is a perennial question. Here in Florida at my PD we changed out carry ammo twice a year or whenever it got immersed. Then we would shoot it in qualification and training. There is wisdom in training with ammo that has similar report, flash, and recoil to what you carry. I continue the practice in retirement.
It helps to note that your carry ammo and gun are subjected to the same climatic conditions as you. If you are cold or hot, so is your gun and ammo. Plus in and out of heated or AC spaces has to affect it.
Most cops treat their ink pin better than their duty gun…Fact!
Well I wouldn’t necessarily disagree however your metaphor is antiquated. With the adoption of CAC and I’m unit computers cops don’t use ink oens very much these days LOL JKMost cops use their ink pen far more than their Duty gun.
To the OP’S Question
My Carry Rotation consists of Glock 19 and an M&P 9.
Every year either on December 31st or January 1st I unload both guns and put the ammunition that I carried the previous year back in the box and put it on the SHTF pile.
I put the magazines from the previous year in a bag and they go in the back of the box of magazines. On the Glock they won't come back up for 7 years on the M&P 9 they don't come back up for 4 years.
This is a good thingMost cops use their ink pen far more than their Duty gun.
