How Do You Quantify How "Safe" You Are?

20220206_120256.jpg

True story, I put on my gun when I put on my pants every single day. When we move and my nearest neighbor is going to be a cow I'm going to get up every morning and put my gun on as soon as I put my pants on everyday.

I have never had need of a firearm in my life. I will still continue to do so as long as I'm physically able.

I've never had anybody try to break into my house. I will continue to lock the doors and use the door Jammer for the rest of my life.

When you're about to go lights out for good, that hardly matters. Either you're serious about self defense, in which case you'd take some knife classes, or you're not.

Judged by 12, meet carried by 6.

Nobody is arguing that. Knives don't negate OC. There's a reason why cops carry a whole array of SD tools on them. No reason we can't take a page out of their book. A little pocket knife can be a life saver, both literally and figuratively.

Again, judged by 12 v carried by 6. You're gonna face the exact same legal issues (even more so) with a firearm. As for disease, if you're forced into THAT particular corner, is it better to die than get someone's blood on you? Alright, so you contract something that's most likely treatable, and if it's not and you only get another 10 years, isn't that better than 0 years?
While I get the lights out if lethal force is needed the problem usually it’s not and if it is most folks can’t fight and will get smashed and slashed up themselves by a real criminal that has been fighting his whole life
And most folks have never seen what a real knife attack looks like from someone that knows what they are doing and if they have a knife too your gonna get cut!

And ok I mean this respectfully but don’t know how to say it. But first a question.

Have you ever been mirandized for a use of force or anything?

I doubt it because everybody that says that is full of poop and has never been through that. I have been mirandized 2 times by OIG agents, for use of force investigations for possible civil rights violations. I also have several training friends that have shot several folks from California to NYPD that have went through the gamut.

The judged by 12 is dismissive and shows they have never had real exposure to see if that whole Homicide or attempted homicide I you did if you met the criteria of sub section A or B that it was legal!

Everyone throws out Rittenhouse and Zimmerman well Rittenhouse (which folks that use the Judeged by 12 Bs phrase) had kver a year of hell and had no clue if he was going to prison til the verdict.

Zimmerman the same way (and if Zimmerman would have used OC or better yet not put himself in close proximity to the kid) we wouldn’t know who he or the kid was he wouldn’t be 500K in debt lost his house had his wife leave him and be completely unemployable because of public perception

Same with Rittenhouse to a lesser extent but they won right?!?!?

I have also as a Municipal PD guy had tough guys (many shouting or had window stickers judged by 13 insured by gun brand X) completely cry like babies because they were getting arrested for battery.
So the projected intestinal fortitude most say they have they sometimes when cuffs go in and it gets real!

So When I hear that I hear someone tell the world they are a blow hard!

Again I am trying to be respectful

Also as far as “case law” it doesn’t matter a Prosecutor can charge someone it doesn’t matter (Rittenhouse) all they need is beyond a reasonable doubt to convict if they loose thwre is no recourse.

That’s called Absolute Immunity that protects prosecutors and Jusges. That’s what really need removed not Absolute immunity but that’s another topic

I mean that entire paragraph sounds like a pro gun control argument. No Law Abiding Citizen needs a Glock 19 and 15 rounds to defend themselves. They should be just fine with a J frame.
I have no doubt I will be able to protect myself with one of my J Frames (5 or 6 round) or my 18 rd EDC x9, or any of my 15 rd DA/SAs. And I’m pretty sure we weren’t talking guns?

I also never questioned your “right” to use your door stopper. I merely mentioned that if I started to need one of those (door stopper) here, it would be time to move (to paraphrase my earlier comment).

I've had zero accidents in almost 20 years. Was a safer with the seatbelt or without it?

I put on my seat belt before I start my car period. If I'm driving or you're in my car everybody puts their seatbelt on before the car starts.

Again no accidents in 18 years am I safer or just potentially safer?
Ask your hypothetical questions AFTER you’ve been in an accident (that was no fault of yours, with no way to avoid) that totals the vehicle you were in…

I hope this isn’t your neighborhood in CO.

['The more central Aurora became to Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric, the greater the temptation among Democratic politicians and activists to wave away talk of gang activity in the city as a right-wing hallucination,' the Times wrote this month.

'But their refusal to acknowledge the violence that some residents were seeing with their own eyes came off not as reassurance but as erasure.']

As you should, if they make you feel safer. As an aside, living in Texas, I would certainly carry a gun daily on a farm, or in desolate terrain, especially in the Spring! Probably want to keep some snake shot available as well.

I don't live in the best neighborhood in Colorado Springs.

This happened within the range of his rifle from my home.

Was my safety really affected?

About a month ago I heard something in the hallway outside my apartment.

I looked out the door and about a yard away from my front door a security guard was dealing with an EDP. I asked him if the cops had been notified and asked if he wanted me to call.

A few minutes later The Fuzz showed up.

Was my safety really affected?

Next month when we move out of the city will we really be measurably safer?

Like I said how do you measure how safe you really are?
But, but, they legalized pot! This was supposed to stop the violence. Inconceivable!

This town presents as “sleepy little burg”. But in recent memory we’ve had a little uni bomber wanna be, murdered teenage girl, and a cop shot in the head. 2 houses in rock throwing distance have had drug dealers hauled away.

All this and I hear , “damn man why you packin’”? This ain’t South St.Paul, relax. It ain’t paranoia if you are paying attention.

A couple of years ago on a visit to the Front Range I went down to the Aerospace Museum in Aurora on a Sunday to avoid all the regular city traffic. Getting off the 4-lane it immediately became apparent Aurora was a Rocky Mtn South Chicago. Most of the DBs must have still be sleeping but there was enough to be on orange alert.

Got to the museum to see the aircraft & made it back thru Aurora (no stopping) and headed back to the place I was visiting.

I quantify things based on where I live, a pretty safe area/region, and my situation awareness because there are DBs everywhere.

My best friend, coincidentally also a bass player named Bob, was murdered there in 2003 by three teenaged hood rats.
Condolences, for sure. I sometimes wonder if the “powers that be” have any intention of ever trying to fix their consistently denied urban gang problems.

Did they at least catch them? I’d say “bring them to justice”, but we know that doesn’t happen in the urban blue, anywhere in the US.

I'm not disputing anything you're saying. What I DID say was, at the end of the day, I'd rather be alive to face all the legal BS than on the other side of the grass. I really don't see myself getting Rittenhouse'd on national TV for sticking a Spyderco in some dude's arm that's choking me out. But I'd rather see myself in court than in a box, if it comes to that.

The whole point of my post was it's better to have a knife than not. Knives CAN AND ARE used to save lives.

And I am not saying knives are nebwr or could never be a consideration. They just are not advisable for a majority of folks. Most folks just can’t fight or grapple or have the skills to win a true street fight.

Men think the can drive and shoot really well but look at any city street and look at the marks on walls of any indoor range!

Oh they caught them. Only because he was in the Navy. Two of them were out within 3 years and the third one was out by 2013.

It's true. And in person it's fairly easy to see which men know little or nothing about fighting.
