Story: Portland police seek public’s help after ‘safe space’ officer loses track of assault suspect near ICE facility

To keep this civil, please avoid talking about suspected politics. Stay inside the lines of the law, law enforcement, etc.

Police are seeking the public’s help in finding a woman accused of assault near the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in Portland, Ore. after one of its “dialogue liaison officers,” sworn officers tasked with “hold[ing] a safe space” for protesters, lost track of her.

...

The DLO followed the woman, who was described as a White female with a large septum nose piercing wearing a black mask and carrying a backpack, trying to talk to her to “hear her side of the story,” according to a news release from Portland police.

The woman would not stop, so the DLO told her she was being detained.

She allegedly refused the lawful police order, and fled.

...

DLOs are sworn police officers, though they act in the role of a liaison and “cannot get involved in enforcement action,” according to the release.

Wow. Sworn, unarmed officers who "hold a safe space" and do no enforcement. No wonder the suspect fled. She probably needed a different safe space, safe from being held responsible for her actions.

Clock is ticking on that situation, nothing good is about to happen! Once the protesters are emboldened they feel there is no turning back. At that point any attempt to quell the uprise will be seen as over reach by law enforcement.

Last time I was in Portland for an agency meeting, in the early 2000's, the "feral" youth gangs were just starting. I had a close-encounter with one pack but they decided not to mess with me.

Portland was a cool town back in the late 70' into the 90's with none of the crap that been going on the last 25 years.

Drove thru there in 22 and timed it to avoid the trouble areas. But on that trip I found out the Willamette Valley had really gone down-hill with transients all over the place.

Very sad that OR has gone down the tubes just like CA.

Is the reluctance due to the memory of Kent State long ago and the political aftermath or is it cowardice? Seems there are other ways to quell the violence but clearly for whatever reason, they are standing down.

Yes Portland was a beautiful town as well as Seattle and S.F., but they have turned their downtown areas into uninhabitable s*t holes. I remember seeing the dead n jefferson airplane playing free in the park. Janis Joplin and Iron Butterfly in Seattle, and Springsteen, Bowie and Paul Simon in Portland. I can’t imagine feeling safe in a crowd anymore esp. in those places 🥲

Agree.. fishermans warf in SF and going to Portland, and going up to the gorge and wine country in both states. Have zero desire now based on their politics and crime. They get ZERO of my vacation $$$.
I’ll spend it elsewhere.
Shame, because I loved those places 20 yrs ago and it got worse and worse

The only reason I would ever go to those places is if someone or crew hurt one of my family members.

I am glad I was able to visit California, Washington and Oregon back in the 80s. I have no reasons to ever go there again and have no desire to. I too go out of my way to avoid large cities. I'm not even that thrilled about going to Las Vegas next week, but I've never been to a squadron reunion and I've never been to Nellis, and as a former aircraft mechanic, I am excited to see some of the static displays they will have there.

It is sad to see some of the most beautiful and impressive cities become :poop: holes, with local politicians encouraging the squallor and pushing back on efforts to clean it up.

I grew up primarily in Inglewood, CA. As a young adult I moved to San Rafael, CA. I've since moved to Portland. With each move I was fleeing something. Inglewood - gang infestation. San Rafael - MS13 literally overtook my neighborhood. Again, gang infestation. Portland pre-covid was nice. It was clearly blue, but not "in your face blue." Now I'm stuck here. I once posted this little chart somewhere else on TAL. Folks, I truly believe we're no longer looking at a Conservative and Liberal government. I think a new, violent third party has entered into existence and I think both parties need to come together to eradicate it.

The Democratic Party died decades ago and was replaced by the current idiocy. JFK, for decades “the” symbol of the Democrats was pro-life, a member of the NRA and heterosexual. Today he’d be a “radical Republican”’’

Although I agree, I think towards the middle of both parties, our true heritage is still hanging on by a thread. After heated debates on TAL, of which I participated vehemently, I made up my mind to remove the labels and work towards the change we all believe is critical. In my mind, the first step was taking a 100 foot look down at today's reality.

I think good people still exist in both predominant parties. I think those people are being suppressed and truly are fearful of standing up for what is right. The radical brutality needs to stop, or be stopped by whatever means necessary. The crazies need to be locked up. The crooks and corrupt politicians need to be tarred and feathered. Unless the sane politicians, of which only a few remain, start working together, we're doomed. This will take "We The People" to get behind them and stop casting aspersions. It is far past time to remove the evil. Once the evil has been defeated, we can address the issues on the table.

I think once the radicals have been dealt with, most of the perceive issues will work themselves out without much controversy. It is the radicals driving the party division and violence, not the legitimate Left or Right. I liken it to 3 "friends". 2 of the friends have a fruitful relationship. Then the third friend works to breed division between the other 2 while being the "best friend" to each.

I am probably way off the mark here but I do know what we're doing now is destructive. There has got to be a better way and I think that begins when the evil has been defeated.

Many people still believe in what this country was but this was brought up several years ago., the silent majority. We need to start up the engine plus limber up the fingers put on the glasses and read the options on who's running for office, which members who should be shown the door and become we the people again. We don't work for Congress or the Senate,we work to keep our country. I stood in line in the forties produced the stamp book for gas coffee butter sugar and a few other things in different parts of the country. We stood by family and neighbors and took seniors to different places. I think back to those days and I remember a old saying "A honest day's pay for a honest day's work. You didn't have to join a union to go to work and another banner saying get off you *** grab a shovel because there ain't no promised land.. yeah I am old and grouchy but I still open doors for women and those with handicapped even though sometimes I'm using 2 crutches but most of the time I can get by with one cane but I can still help other and be polite. A third party is not a bad idea as the Constitution has the guide lines and darn it's still here. Fact last year I had my crutches leaning against my car while I put groceries in the car,4 young males grabbed one of my crutches and took off with it. Damn things had cost me $250 the year B4 so I use it along with a cane. I am a Independent and both parties talk to me like a used car sales person. The old guys like me holding seats and vote there own raise need to be patted on the back as there shown the door. OOPs better get off my soapbox. So excuse me if I somehow stepped on some toes but I can't give my country away not after the military and law enforcement. I guess I'm norrow minded and to old but I'm still here. Thanks for your time. Stay safe help friends when you can and always come to the rescue of a damzsl in distress.
