There’s a lot of rooftops in Iraq. Most of the monuments in Baghdad were hollow with stairwells leading to observation windows. We had OP’s set up in them. You’d spot a bad guy mortar team pop up on a rooftop and engage them with our sniper systems.

One of the range officers at my range carried an M14 along with a 1911 when he was in Iraq. He's the nicest guy in the world but I have a sinking suspicion he was/is one bad dude if need be. My Battalion Commander asked me to give the M14s a good inspection. He and I were the only ones in our Battalion that had experience with them.
No Magazines, slings, manuals, or cleaning kits. Half the stocks were wood. The others were fiberglass.
All but a handful had barrels that weren’t shot out!
It took about 6 months before they were “War Ready”. All new National Match barrels, gas systems, operating rods, springs, and stocks.
8 magazines per rifle, tactical slings, cleaning kits, and scope mounts.

Yep. Several Senior NCOs (myself included) had access to “War Stock”weapons.
