Fun Fact: The Army opened up the War stock and reissued M14s and M79s right after 9/11.
My Battalion Commander asked me to give the M14s a good inspection. He and I were the only ones in our Battalion that had experience with them.
No Magazines, slings, manuals, or cleaning kits. Half the stocks were wood. The others were fiberglass.
All but a handful had barrels that weren’t shot out!
It took about 6 months before they were “War Ready”. All new National Match barrels, gas systems, operating rods, springs, and stocks.
